3. Setup and Installation
3.1 Pre-Installation Checks
Proper installation is crucial for the efficient and safe operation of your mini split system. Review the user manual for detailed clearances and requirements specific to your model.
- Wall Strength: Ensure the wall is sturdy enough to hold the indoor unit's weight without vibration.
- Clearances: The indoor unit must be at least 6 inches (15 cm) below the ceiling for proper airflow. Verify all proper clearances in the installation preview section of your user manual.
- Obstructions: Keep the inlet and outlet clear of any obstructions.
- Interference: Install the indoor unit at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from any TVs or radio appliances to prevent interference.
- Outdoor Unit Placement: The outdoor unit must be spaced away from the wall. Ensure no plants or objects are within 3 feet of the appliance.

3.3 Handling Refrigerant Pipes
When bending refrigerant pipes, use a bending tool or bend them very slowly to avoid damage. Damaged pipes can lead to leaks and reduced efficiency.
3.4 Bundling the Line Set
After connecting the indoor unit, ensure the line set is angled downward and the drain pipe points straight down to allow proper liquid flow and prevent leaks. Bundle all wires and pipes neatly and wrap them together with plastic tapes for protection and a tidy appearance.
3.5 Vacuuming the Refrigerant Circuit
Vacuuming the lines is a critical step to remove air and moisture for maximum efficiency. Vacuum for at least 15 minutes for each line set. For multi-zone systems, vacuum each line set separately. Use a micron gauge to reach 500 microns, or a manifold gauge to aim for -30 PSI.
3.6 Electrical Connection
Ensure safe electrical connection. Always verify your connection for safety. Check your home's voltage (115V or 230V) and select the appropriate size and quality UL-listed wire for the mini split system.
