2. General Safety Information
WARNING: Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations, and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.
- Work Area Safety: Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
- Electrical Safety: Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
- Personal Safety: Always wear eye protection. Use appropriate safety equipment such as dust masks, non-skid safety shoes, hard hats, or hearing protection when necessary. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts.
- Tool Use and Care: Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
- Battery Pack Use and Care: Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack. Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
3. Product Components
The AVID POWER ACD316 Cordless Drill Set includes the drill unit, a 20V MAX Lithium Ion battery pack, and a charger. Familiarize yourself with the main parts of the battery for proper use and charging.

Figure 3.2: 1.5Ah Battery Protection Features. This image illustrates the internal design of the 1.5Ah battery, emphasizing its six advanced protection features: over-charge, over-heating, over-discharge, over-current, over-voltage, and short circuit protection, ensuring safety and longevity.
4. Setup
4.1. Charging the Battery Pack
Before first use, fully charge the battery pack. The 1.5Ah Lithium-Ion battery features built-in overcharge and overheating protection for extended battery life.
- Connect the charger to a standard power outlet.
- Slide the battery pack onto the charger until it clicks into place.
- Monitor the charging indicator lights on the battery. Once all lights are solid, the battery is fully charged.
- Disconnect the charger from the power outlet and remove the battery pack.

4.2. Installing and Removing the Battery Pack
- To Install: Align the battery pack with the base of the drill handle. Slide the battery pack into the handle until it clicks securely into place.
- To Remove: Press the battery release latch (refer to Figure 3.1) and slide the battery pack out of the drill handle.
4.3. Installing and Removing Drill Bits/Accessories
- To Install: Rotate the chuck counter-clockwise to open the jaws. Insert the drill bit or accessory into the chuck. Rotate the chuck clockwise to tighten the jaws securely around the bit. Ensure the bit is centered and firmly held.
- To Remove: Rotate the chuck counter-clockwise to loosen the jaws and remove the bit.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Torque Settings (15+1 Position Clutch)
The drill features a 15+1 position clutch, allowing precise control of torque to prevent over-driving screws or damaging materials. The '15' settings are for driving screws, while the '+' setting (drill mode) is for drilling applications.
- Rotate the torque adjustment collar to select the desired torque setting. Lower numbers are for smaller screws and softer materials; higher numbers are for larger screws and harder materials.
- For drilling, select the drill mode (indicated by a drill bit symbol or the highest setting).

Figure 5.1: 15+1 Torque Setting. This image details the torque adjustment collar, showing settings from 1 to 15 for various screw driving tasks and a dedicated drill mode. It also indicates maximum drilling capacities: 13/16-inch (20mm) for wood and 3/8-inch (10mm) for steel plate.

Figure 5.2: 16 Position Clutch in Use. This image shows the drill being used to drive a screw, highlighting the versatility of the 16-position clutch for handling different materials and tasks.
5.2. Variable Speed Control
The trigger switch provides variable speed control. Press the trigger lightly for slower speeds and press it further for higher speeds. This allows for precise control depending on the application.
5.3. Forward/Reverse Switch
A switch located above the trigger controls the direction of rotation (forward for driving/drilling, reverse for removing screws). Position the switch to the center to lock the trigger and prevent accidental starting.
5.4. LED Working Light
The integrated LED light illuminates the work surface when the trigger is pressed, improving visibility in dimly lit areas.

Figure 5.3: LED Working Light. This image demonstrates the LED light on the drill illuminating the work surface, enhancing visibility during operation.
5.5. Using the Flexible Shaft (if included)
For reaching screws or drilling in tight or awkward spaces, attach the flexible shaft accessory to the drill chuck. Ensure it is securely tightened before use.

Figure 5.4: Flexible Shaft in Use. This image shows the flexible shaft accessory attached to the drill, allowing access to fasteners in confined or difficult-to-reach locations.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your drill.
- Cleaning: Keep the ventilation openings of the tool clean to prevent overheating. Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior of the drill. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Storage: Store the drill, battery, and charger in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Ensure the battery is partially charged (not fully depleted or fully charged for long-term storage) to maintain battery health.
- Battery Care: Recharge the battery every 3 months if not in regular use to maintain its lifespan.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the drill for any signs of damage, loose screws, or worn parts. Do not use a damaged tool.
