Omegon Horizon CR AC 70/700 AZ-Bellavista Telescope

Instruction Manual - Model 80892

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Omegon Horizon CR AC 70/700 AZ-Bellavista Telescope. This achromatic refractor telescope is designed for both astronomical observations, such as viewing the Moon and planets, and terrestrial observations of nature. Its intuitive design and comprehensive accessory kit make it suitable for beginners and enthusiasts alike. This manual provides detailed instructions for assembly, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and enjoyment of your telescope.

2. Safety Information

  • Never look directly at the Sun through the telescope or its finder scope without a professionally manufactured solar filter. Doing so can cause immediate and irreversible eye damage, including blindness.
  • Ensure the telescope is set up on a stable, level surface to prevent tipping.
  • Keep all accessories, especially small parts, out of reach of small children to prevent choking hazards.
  • Avoid exposing the telescope to extreme temperatures or high humidity.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble the optical components, as this may void the warranty and damage the instrument.

4.2 Attaching the Optical Tube

  1. Locate the dovetail bar on the optical tube.
  2. Slide the dovetail bar into the clamp on the AZ-Bellavista mount.
  3. Tighten the clamping screw to secure the optical tube firmly to the mount.

4.3 Installing Eyepieces and Accessories

  1. Insert the 90-degree diagonal mirror into the focuser. Secure it with the thumbscrew.
  2. Choose an eyepiece (e.g., the 25mm Plössl for wider views) and insert it into the diagonal mirror. Secure it with the thumbscrew.
  3. Attach the red dot finder to its designated bracket on the optical tube. Align it with the main telescope during daylight hours by pointing the telescope at a distant object and adjusting the finder until the red dot is centered on the same object.
  4. If using the smartphone adapter, attach it to an eyepiece and secure your smartphone.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 First Light: Observing Terrestrial Objects

Before observing celestial objects, it is recommended to practice with terrestrial targets during the day. This helps you get familiar with the telescope's controls and focusing mechanism.

  1. Point the telescope at a distant object (e.g., a tree or building).
  2. Look through the red dot finder to center the object.
  3. Look through the eyepiece and use the focuser knobs to bring the image into sharp focus.

5.2 Observing Celestial Objects

For astronomical observations, choose a dark location away from city lights. Allow your eyes to adapt to the darkness for at least 20 minutes.

  1. Start with the lowest magnification eyepiece (e.g., 25mm) for a wider field of view, making it easier to locate objects.
  2. Use the red dot finder to locate your desired celestial object (e.g., the Moon, a bright planet, or a star cluster).
  3. Once the object is centered in the finder, look through the telescope's eyepiece.
  4. Adjust the focuser for a sharp image.
  5. For higher magnification, switch to a shorter focal length eyepiece (e.g., 10mm) or use the 2x Barlow lens in conjunction with an eyepiece.

5.3 Focusing

The telescope features a Crayford focuser for smooth and precise focusing. Rotate the larger knob for coarse adjustments and the smaller knob for fine adjustments until the image is perfectly sharp.

5.4 Using the AZ-Bellavista Mount

The AZ-Bellavista mount allows for intuitive tracking of objects. Use the slow-motion controls to make fine adjustments in both horizontal (azimuth) and vertical (altitude) directions. This enables smooth and effortless tracking of celestial objects as they move across the sky.

5.5 Using the Smartphone Adapter and Bluetooth Shutter Release

The smartphone adapter allows you to capture images or videos through the telescope. Attach your smartphone to the adapter, align your phone's camera with the eyepiece, and use the Bluetooth shutter release to take photos without shaking the telescope.

6. Maintenance and Care

  • Cleaning Optics: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical lenses. For stubborn dust, use a blower brush first. For smudges, use a specialized optical cleaning solution and cloth. Avoid touching the lens surfaces with your fingers.
  • Cleaning the Body: Wipe the telescope tube and mount with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the telescope in a dry, dust-free environment. Use the original packaging or a dedicated telescope bag for protection. Avoid storing it in areas with extreme temperature fluctuations.
  • Moisture: If the telescope is exposed to moisture, allow it to air dry completely before storing. Do not use heat to dry it.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Image is blurry or out of focus.Focuser not adjusted correctly.Adjust the focuser knobs slowly until the image is sharp.
Cannot find objects.Red dot finder not aligned or using too high magnification.Align the red dot finder during daylight. Start with the lowest magnification eyepiece.
Image is dim or dark.Light pollution, high magnification, or dirty optics.Move to a darker location. Use a lower magnification eyepiece. Clean the optics carefully.
Telescope shakes excessively.Tripod not stable or legs not fully extended/locked.Ensure tripod legs are fully extended and locked. Set up on a firm, level surface. Avoid touching the telescope during observation.
Bluetooth shutter release not connecting.Battery low or not paired correctly.Replace battery. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone and pair the device according to its instructions.
