5. Setup and Installation
The CHICIRIS Digital Ignition Switch is designed for a plug-and-play installation. However, professional installation is recommended for marine electrical components.
5.1 Pre-Installation Checks
- Verify Compatibility: Ensure the OEM part number 893353A03 matches your existing ignition switch or is compatible with your Mercruiser DTS system.
- Safety First: Disconnect the boat's battery before beginning any electrical work to prevent accidental shorts or injury.
- Tools Required: You may need basic hand tools such as a wrench for the mounting nut and possibly wire cutters/strippers if any wiring modifications are necessary (though typically not for plug-and-play).
5.2 Installation Steps
- Remove Old Switch: Carefully disconnect the wiring harness from the existing ignition switch. Unscrew the mounting nut and remove the old switch from the dashboard or control panel.
- Prepare Mounting Location: Ensure the mounting hole has a cutout diameter of approximately 7/8 inch. Clean the area around the mounting hole.
- Insert New Switch: Insert the new CHICIRIS ignition switch into the prepared mounting hole.
- Secure Switch: Thread and tighten the mounting nut onto the switch from the back of the panel to secure it firmly in place. Do not overtighten.

- Connect Wiring: Connect the 6-pin male connector of the new ignition switch to the corresponding female connector in your boat's wiring harness. Ensure the connection is secure and fully seated.

- Reconnect Battery: Once all connections are secure, reconnect the boat's battery.
6. Operation
The ignition switch features four distinct key positions:
- ACC (Accessory): Provides power to accessories such as the radio, bilge pump, or navigation lights without turning on the engine.
- OFF: All power to the engine and most accessories is cut. The key can be removed in this position.
- ON: Powers the engine's ignition system and other essential components, preparing the engine for starting.
- START: Engages the starter motor to crank the engine. Release the key immediately once the engine starts; it will spring back to the 'ON' position.

7. Maintenance
The CHICIRIS Digital Ignition Switch is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance. To ensure optimal performance and longevity:
- Keep Clean: Periodically wipe the exterior of the switch with a clean, dry cloth to remove salt, dirt, or debris.
- Inspect Connections: Annually inspect the wiring connections for corrosion or looseness. Ensure they remain clean and secure.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents on the switch, as these can damage the plastic housing.
8. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your ignition switch, consider the following basic troubleshooting steps:
- No Power: Check the boat's battery connections and ensure the battery is charged. Verify that all fuses related to the ignition system are intact.
- Engine Not Cranking: Ensure the gear shift is in neutral. Check for loose or corroded connections at the starter motor and the ignition switch.
- Intermittent Operation: This could indicate a loose connection or internal wear. Inspect the wiring harness for any signs of damage.
If problems persist after performing these checks, it is recommended to consult a qualified marine technician for diagnosis and repair.
