5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation and Charging

The UV-K1(8) supports two battery capacities: 1400mAh (short battery) and 2500mAh (long battery). Ensure the battery is correctly installed before use.

To charge the battery:

  1. Using Type-C Cable: Connect the Type-C USB cable to the port on the side of the radio (for the 2500mAh battery) or directly to the battery pack (if applicable) and to a compatible USB power source.
  2. Using Charging Base: Place the radio with the battery installed into the charging base. Ensure the charging contacts align. Connect the charging base to a power source. The indicator light on the radio or base will show charging status.

5.2 Antenna Attachment

Screw the antenna clockwise into the antenna connector on the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off and Volume Control

  • Power On: Rotate the Power/Volume Knob clockwise until a click is heard and the display illuminates.
  • Power Off: Rotate the Power/Volume Knob counter-clockwise until a click is heard and the display turns off.
  • Volume Adjustment: Rotate the Power/Volume Knob to adjust the audio output level.

6.2 Basic Communication

  1. Select the desired channel or frequency using the number/function keys or the MENU button.
  2. To transmit, press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone.
  3. Release the PTT button to receive.

6.3 Fast Copy One Channel (F+4 Key)

This feature allows for quick replication of a channel's frequency and CTC/DCS tones from another radio.

To use Fast Copy One Channel:

  1. Press the F key followed by the 4 key. The radio will enter scanning mode.
  2. Place the transmitting radio near your UV-K1(8) and transmit on the desired channel.
  3. The UV-K1(8) will detect and copy the frequency and CTC/DCS settings.

6.4 AM/FM Aviation Band Receiving

The UV-K1(8) can receive signals on the AM and FM aviation bands. Refer to the full user manual for specific steps on how to switch between bands and tune frequencies.
