Daiwa Ballistic MQ LT Spinning Reel BLSMQLT2500D-XH Instruction Manual

Model: BLSMQLT2500D-XH

1. Introduction and Overview

The Daiwa Ballistic MQ LT Spinning Reel is engineered for exceptional light and tough performance. It features a Monocoque Body (MQ) design, which allows for a larger gear to be housed within a more compact and rigid frame, enhancing both power and durability. The 360-degree screw-in sideplate contributes to a more weather-resistant housing by eliminating traditional screws. Constructed with ZAION-V frame material, the reel offers high durability, corrosion resistance, and rigidity. A MagSealed main shaft provides protection against water and debris intrusion, ensuring reliable operation in challenging conditions.

2. Setup

2.1 Attaching the Reel to a Fishing Rod

  1. Loosen the Reel Seat: Twist the locking nut on your fishing rod's reel seat counter-clockwise until it is loose enough to slide the reel foot in.
  2. Insert Reel Foot: Place the foot of the Daiwa Ballistic MQ LT reel into the fixed hood of the reel seat.
  3. Secure the Reel: Slide the movable locking nut up over the reel foot and twist clockwise until the reel is firmly secured to the rod. Ensure there is no wobble.

2.2 Spooling Fishing Line

  1. Open Bail: Flip the bail arm open.
  2. Tie Line to Spool: Tie the fishing line to the reel spool using an arbor knot or a similar secure knot. Trim any excess tag end.
  3. Close Bail: Close the bail arm.
  4. Maintain Tension: Hold the line with light tension between your fingers and begin reeling slowly. Ensure the line lays evenly on the spool.
  5. Fill Spool: Fill the spool to approximately 1/8 inch (3mm) from the rim. Overfilling can cause line tangles and casting issues.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Casting

  1. Position Lure: Allow your lure or bait to hang about 6-12 inches from the rod tip.
  2. Open Bail: Use your index finger to hold the line against the rod, then flip the bail arm open.
  3. Cast: Bring the rod back over your shoulder, then swiftly cast forward, releasing the line with your index finger as the rod reaches the 10 o'clock position.
  4. Close Bail: As the lure approaches the water, manually close the bail or allow the reel handle to turn to close it automatically.

3.2 Adjusting the Drag System

The drag system controls the amount of resistance the reel applies to a pulling fish, preventing line breakage. The drag knob is located on the top of the spool.
