5. Operating Instructions

The VEVOR MR-13D offers precise control over sharpening angles to match various drill bit requirements.

5.1 Understanding Drill Bit Angles

The sharpener allows adjustment of three critical angles:

  • Point Angle: The angle formed by the cutting edges at the tip of the drill bit. Adjustable from 95° to 135°.
  • Lip Relief Angle: The angle that provides clearance behind the cutting edge.
  • Front Cutting Lip: The primary cutting edge of the drill bit.

Figure 4: Adjustable drill bit angles.

5.2 Adjusting Angles

  • For Lip Relief Angle: Move the small block outward for a smaller angle or inward for a larger angle.
  • For Front Cutting Lip: Loosen the side screw, hold the positioning pin, and rotate it to adjust.
  • For Point Angle (95°-135°): Use the adjustment dial or lever on the machine to set the desired point angle.

5.3 4-Step Easy Drill Bit Sharpening Process

  1. Step 1: Choose the appropriate collet. Select the collet that precisely matches the diameter of the drill bit to be sharpened. Insert the drill bit into the chosen collet and then into the collet chuck.
  2. Step 2: Adjust the position according to the drill bit size. Secure the drill bit in the collet chuck, ensuring it is properly aligned and extends to the correct length for sharpening.
  3. Step 3: Insert collet chuck based on grinding hole's parallel line. With the machine powered on, carefully insert the collet chuck with the drill bit into the designated grinding hole, aligning it with the parallel line indicator.
  4. Step 4: Rotate 180° to complete the sharpening. Gently rotate the collet chuck 180 degrees, applying light pressure, to sharpen both cutting edges of the drill bit. Remove the drill bit and inspect its sharpness. Repeat if necessary.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your VEVOR Drill Bits Sharpener.

  • Cleaning: After each use, unplug the machine and use a soft brush or compressed air to remove grinding dust and debris from the machine, especially around the grinding wheel and collet areas.
  • Grinding Wheel Inspection: Periodically inspect the CBN grinding wheel for wear or damage. A worn wheel will reduce sharpening efficiency. Replace the grinding wheel if it shows significant wear or damage.
  • Storage: Store the sharpener in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep all collets and accessories organized.

7. Troubleshooting

Refer to the following table for common issues and their potential solutions:

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Machine does not start No power supply; Power switch off; Damaged power cord. Check power connection; Turn power switch ON; Inspect and replace power cord if damaged.
Drill bit not sharpening effectively Worn grinding wheel; Incorrect angle setting; Improper drill bit insertion. Replace CBN grinding wheel; Adjust point and relief angles; Ensure drill bit is securely and correctly inserted in the collet chuck.
Uneven sharpening Inconsistent rotation during sharpening; Loose collet or chuck. Maintain steady rotation and pressure; Ensure collet and chuck are tightened properly.
Excessive vibration or noise Loose components; Damaged grinding wheel; Unstable placement. Check and tighten all fasteners; Inspect grinding wheel for damage; Ensure machine is on a stable surface.
