Important Safety Information

Please read all instructions carefully before operating the SHARDOR 20 Bar Espresso Machine. Keep this manual for future reference.

  • Ensure the machine is placed on a stable, level surface away from water sources.
  • Do not immerse the appliance, power cord, or plug in water or other liquids.
  • Unplug the machine from the outlet when not in use and before cleaning.
  • Do not operate the machine with a damaged cord or plug.
  • Keep children away from the appliance during operation.
  • Use only ground coffee; do not use instant coffee or whole beans directly.
  • Exercise caution when using the steam wand, as hot steam can cause burns.

Key Components:

Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials and ensure all components are present.
  2. Placement: Place the espresso machine on a dry, stable, and level surface. Ensure adequate ventilation around the machine.
  3. Clean Components: Wash the water tank, portafilter, filter baskets, and drip tray with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  4. Fill Water Tank: Remove the 40oz water tank from the back of the machine. Fill it with fresh, cold water up to the MAX line. Replace the tank securely.

  5. Initial Rinse: Before first use, perform an initial rinse cycle without coffee.
    • Plug the machine into a grounded electrical outlet.
    • Press and hold the power button on the touchscreen for 1 second to turn on the machine. The display will show three blinking lines, indicating preheating.
    • Once preheating is complete (display shows temperature), place a cup under the portafilter.
    • Press the single shot button to run water through the system. Repeat this process 2-3 times.
    • Activate the steam wand briefly to clear any air.

Operating Instructions

1. Making Espresso

  1. Preheat: Ensure the machine is powered on and preheated. The display will show the current temperature.
  2. Prepare Portafilter: Insert the desired filter basket (single or double shot) into the portafilter.

  3. Add Ground Coffee: Fill the filter basket with finely ground espresso coffee. For a single shot, use approximately 7-10g. For a double shot, use 14-20g.

  4. Tamp Coffee: Use the tamper to press the coffee grounds firmly and evenly.
  5. Attach Portafilter: Insert the portafilter into the group head and turn it to the right until it is securely locked.
  6. Place Cup(s): Place your espresso cup(s) on the drip tray directly under the portafilter spouts. For optimal temperature, use the cup warmer on top of the machine.
  7. Select Brew: On the touchscreen, press the single shot button () for a single espresso or the double shot button (☕☕) for a double espresso. The machine will automatically brew the selected volume.

  8. Custom Volume Control: You can adjust the brew volume. Single shot can be adjusted from 20ml to 60ml (default 30ml). Double shot can be adjusted up to 120ml.

2. Using the Steam Wand for Milk Frothing

  1. Prepare Milk: Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) up to one-third full.
  2. Activate Steam: Press the steam button (♨️) on the touchscreen. The machine will preheat for steaming.
  3. Purge Steam Wand: Once the steam indicator is ready, turn the steam knob on the side of the machine to release a small amount of steam into an empty cup to clear any condensed water. Turn the knob off.
  4. Froth Milk: Immerse the steam wand tip just below the surface of the milk in the pitcher. Turn the steam knob to the ON position.

    Move the pitcher up and down slightly to create microfoam. Continue until the milk reaches the desired temperature and texture. Turn the steam knob to OFF.

  5. Clean Steam Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying. Briefly purge the steam wand again to clear any internal milk.

Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and longevity of your espresso machine.

  • Daily Cleaning:
    • Empty and clean the drip tray and water tank with warm, soapy water.
    • Rinse the portafilter and filter basket after each use.
    • Wipe down the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth.

  • Steam Wand Cleaning: After each use, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth and briefly purge steam to prevent milk buildup.
  • Descaling: Depending on water hardness and usage, descale the machine every 2-3 months. Follow the instructions provided with a suitable descaling solution.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No water flow: Check water tank level, ensure it's properly seated. Descale if necessary.
  • Espresso too weak/strong: Adjust coffee grind size, amount of coffee, or tamp pressure. Use custom volume control for desired strength.
  • No steam from wand: Ensure the steam function is activated and the machine has preheated for steaming. Clean the steam wand if clogged.
  • Machine not turning on: Check power connection. Ensure the power button is pressed and held for 1 second.
