1. Setup Guide

1.2 Connecting to Power

Connect the power cord to the printer and then to a grounded electrical outlet. Do not connect the printer to a surge protector or extension cord during initial setup.

1.3 Installing Ink Cartridges

  1. Open the ink cartridge access door.
  2. Remove the new ink cartridges from their packaging.
  3. Insert each cartridge into its corresponding slot until it clicks into place. Ensure the color cartridge goes into the color slot and the black cartridge into the black slot.
  4. Close the ink cartridge access door.

1.4 Loading Paper

Open the input tray and adjust the paper guides to fit the paper size. Load a stack of plain white paper into the input tray, ensuring it is not overfilled. The printer supports A4 maximum media size.

1.5 Software Installation and Wireless Connection

Turn on the printer. Follow the instructions on the printer's display or refer to the quick start guide for software installation. For wireless setup, navigate to the wireless settings on the printer's control panel and connect to your Wi-Fi network. Alternatively, use the HP Smart app on your smartphone for guided setup.

2. Operating Instructions

2.1 Printing Documents

To print from a computer, ensure the printer drivers are installed. Select "Print" from your application, choose the HP DJ4227e, and adjust settings as needed. For mobile printing, use the HP Smart app to select documents or photos and send them to the printer via Wi-Fi.

2.2 Scanning Documents

Place the document face down on the scanner glass or face up in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). Open the HP Smart app or scanning software on your computer, select "Scan," and follow the prompts to adjust settings and save the scanned file.

2.3 Copying Documents

Place the document on the scanner glass or in the ADF. On the printer's control panel, select "Copy." You can choose to make multiple copies or adjust settings like copy quality before initiating the copy process.

2.4 Faxing Documents

To send a fax, load the document into the ADF. Enter the recipient's fax number using the printer's control panel. Confirm settings and press the "Fax" button. Ensure the printer is connected to a phone line for fax functionality.

3. Maintenance

3.1 Replacing Ink Cartridges

When an ink cartridge is low or empty, the printer will indicate this. Open the ink cartridge access door, press down on the empty cartridge to release it, and pull it out. Insert a new, genuine HP ink cartridge into the slot until it clicks. Close the access door.

3.2 Cleaning the Print Heads

If print quality degrades (streaks, faded colors), perform a print head cleaning. This option is usually available through the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app/printer software on your computer. Follow the on-screen instructions.

3.3 Cleaning the Scanner Glass

To ensure clear scans and copies, regularly clean the scanner glass. Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with glass cleaner. Avoid abrasive cleaners or spraying liquid directly onto the glass.

4. Troubleshooting

4.1 Printer Not Responding

  • Ensure the printer is powered on and connected to a working electrical outlet.
