Important Safeguards

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  • Read all instructions before operating the slow cooker.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse the base unit, cord, or plug in water or other liquid.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  • Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair, or adjustment.
  • The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  • Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot oil or other hot liquids.
  • Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to "OFF", then remove plug from wall outlet.
  • Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as adding refrigerated foods into a heated crock.
  • The stoneware crock is designed for use in this appliance only. It must never be used on a stovetop or in a microwave oven.
  • Do not place a hot slow cooker on a wet or cold surface.
  • Do not use a cracked crock or a loose lid.
  • Do not wrap the cord around the appliance when storing.

Components

Familiarize yourself with the parts of your MegaChef Slow Cooker:

  • Tempered Glass Lid: Allows monitoring of cooking progress. Features a latch and hook locking system for secure transport.
  • Stoneware Crock: Removable, oven-safe, and dishwasher-safe cooking vessel.
  • Heating Base: The main unit containing the heating element and control knob.
  • Control Knob: Used to select temperature settings (OFF, LOW, HIGH, WARM).
  • Carry Handles: Integrated handles on the heating base for portability.

Setup

Before First Use

  1. Remove all packaging materials and labels from the slow cooker.
  2. Wash the stoneware crock and tempered glass lid in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
  3. Wipe the exterior of the heating base with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the heating base in water.
  4. Ensure all parts are dry before assembly and use.

Assembly

  1. Place the heating base on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface.
  2. Insert the clean stoneware crock into the heating base.
  3. Place the tempered glass lid onto the stoneware crock.

Operating Instructions

Cooking with Your Slow Cooker

  1. Prepare your ingredients and place them into the stoneware crock. Do not overfill; ensure there is at least 1 inch of space from the top rim.
  2. Place the lid securely on the crock. If transporting, engage the latch and hook locking system.
  3. Plug the power cord into a 120V AC electrical outlet.
  4. Turn the control knob to your desired setting:
    • LOW: For slow cooking over a longer period (approx. 170-190°F).
    • HIGH: For faster cooking (approx. 190-212°F).
    • WARM: To keep cooked food at serving temperature (approx. 145-165°F). Do not use the WARM setting for cooking.
  5. Cook for the time specified in your recipe. Avoid lifting the lid frequently, as this releases heat and extends cooking time.
  6. Once cooking is complete, turn the control knob to "OFF" and unplug the slow cooker from the outlet.
  7. Allow the appliance to cool before cleaning.

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning

  1. Always unplug the slow cooker and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. The stoneware crock and tempered glass lid are dishwasher safe or can be washed by hand with warm, soapy water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads that may scratch surfaces.
  3. To clean the heating base, wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not immerse the heating base in water or any other liquid.
  4. For stubborn food residue on the stoneware crock, fill it with warm, soapy water and let it soak for a few hours before cleaning.

Storage

Ensure all parts are clean and dry before storing. Store the slow cooker assembled with the lid on the crock, or store components separately in a dry place.

Troubleshooting
