1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the BLACK+DECKER Quartz Glide 1700W Automatic Shut-Off Steam Iron. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and care of your new appliance. Please read all instructions carefully before use and retain this manual for future reference.

2. Important Safety Instructions

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury.

  • Read all instructions before using the iron.
  • Use the iron only for its intended use.
  • To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not immerse the iron in water or other liquids.
  • Always turn the iron OFF before plugging or unplugging from the outlet. Never yank cord to disconnect from outlet; instead, grasp plug and pull to disconnect.
  • Do not allow cord to touch hot surfaces. Let iron cool completely before putting away. Loop cord loosely around iron when storing.
  • Always disconnect iron from electrical outlet when filling with water or emptying, and when not in use.
  • Do not operate iron with a damaged cord or if the iron has been dropped or damaged. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the iron; take it to a qualified service person for examination and repair. Incorrect reassembly can cause a risk of electric shock when the iron is used.
  • Close supervision is necessary for any appliance being used by or near children. Do not leave iron unattended while connected or on an ironing board.
  • Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water, or steam. Use caution when you turn a steam iron upside down – there may be hot water in the reservoir.
  • The iron must be used and rested on a stable surface.
  • When placing the iron on its stand, ensure that the surface on which the stand is placed is stable.

The Burst of Steam feature can also be used for vertical steaming of hanging garments, drapes, or upholstery.

  • Hang the garment on a hanger.
  • Hold the iron upright, a few inches away from the fabric.
  • Press the Burst of Steam button repeatedly while moving the iron up and down the garment.

Spray Mist

The Spray Mist function helps to dampen fabrics for easier wrinkle removal, especially for dry ironing.

  • Ensure the water tank is filled.
  • Press the Spray Mist button to release a fine mist onto the fabric.

Automatic Shut-Off

For safety and energy efficiency, your iron is equipped with a 3-way automatic shut-off feature.

  • If left motionless on its soleplate, the iron will shut off after 30 seconds.
  • If left motionless on its side, the iron will shut off after 30 seconds.
  • If left motionless on its heel rest, the iron will shut off after 8 minutes.

To reset the iron after an automatic shut-off, simply move the iron. The power indicator light will illuminate, and the iron will reheat to the selected temperature.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your iron.

Self-Cleaning Function

The self-cleaning feature helps to remove mineral buildup from the steam vents.

  1. Fill the water tank to the MAX line.
  2. Plug in the iron and set the Temperature Control Dial to the highest setting.
  3. Once the iron reaches temperature (indicator light turns off), unplug it.
  4. Hold the iron over a sink, press and hold the Self-Clean button. Hot water and steam will flush out mineral buildup.
  5. Gently rock the iron back and forth until the water tank is empty.
  6. Plug the iron back in and let it heat up to dry out any remaining water.
  7. Unplug and store once cool.

Cleaning the Soleplate

  • For minor residue, wipe the soleplate with a damp cloth while the iron is cool.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal scouring pads, as these can damage the quartz-infused ceramic soleplate.

Storage

  • Always ensure the iron is completely cool before storing.
  • Empty any remaining water from the tank.
  • Store the iron upright on its heel rest to prevent soleplate damage.
  • Wrap the 3-meter cord loosely around the iron.
