3. Setup and Installation

3.1 MicroSD Card Insertion

  1. Ensure the dash cam is powered off.
  2. Locate the microSD card slot on the side of the front camera unit.
  3. Insert the BlackVue microSD card with the gold contacts facing away from the lens until it clicks into place.

3.2 Front Camera Installation

  1. Clean the windshield area where the camera will be mounted.
  2. Attach the front camera to the windshield using the provided double-sided tape, ensuring a clear view of the road. Position it centrally, behind the rearview mirror for optimal recording and minimal obstruction.
  3. Adjust the camera angle to capture the desired field of view.

3.3 Rear Camera Installation (2CH models only)

  1. Clean the rear window area where the rear camera will be mounted.
  2. Attach the rear camera to the rear window using the provided double-sided tape.
  3. Connect the rear camera to the front camera using the supplied rear camera cable. Route the cable discreetly along the vehicle's headliner and pillars using the pry tool and cable clips.

3.4 Power Connection

  1. Connect the hardwiring power cable to your vehicle's fuse box for continuous power, enabling parking mode. Consult your vehicle's manual or a professional for proper fuse box connection.
  2. Alternatively, use the USB-C PD3.0 Power Cable and Dual C-Type Car Charger for power via the cigarette lighter socket. Note that parking mode functionality may be limited with this method.
  3. Once connected, the dash cam will power on automatically and begin recording.

4. Operation

4.1 Recording Modes

  • Normal Recording: Automatically starts when the vehicle's ignition is turned on.
  • Event Recording: Triggered by impacts, sudden braking, or sharp turns (G-Sensor). Records 10 seconds before and 50 seconds after the event.
  • Parking Mode: Activates when the vehicle is stationary for a set period.
    • Power Saving Parking Mode: Consumes minimal power (under 1 mA) and wakes up in 0.89 seconds to record events. Requires hardwiring.
    • Buffered Parking Mode: Records continuously at 1 frame per second (time-lapse) and saves a full-speed clip with 10 seconds pre-event and 50 seconds post-event upon motion or impact detection.

4.2 Wi-Fi and App Control

The BlackVue app (available for iOS and Android) allows you to connect to your dash cam via Wi-Fi for various functions:

  • Remote Playback: Access and review footage stored in the cloud without removing the SD card.

5. Maintenance

5.1 MicroSD Card Management

  • Regularly format the microSD card (at least once a month) using the BlackVue app or viewer software to maintain optimal performance and prevent recording errors.
  • Replace the microSD card periodically (e.g., annually) as they have a limited lifespan due to continuous overwriting. Use only BlackVue-branded microSD cards for guaranteed compatibility and reliability.
  • Ensure the dash cam is powered off before removing or inserting the microSD card to prevent data corruption.

5.2 Cleaning

  • Wipe the camera lenses with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to ensure clear video quality.
  • Clean the exterior of the dash cam with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
