Instruction Manual

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the WARMTEC Electric Underfloor Heating Mat. This innovative heating mat is designed to provide uniform and rapid heat distribution, ensuring comfortable warmth under your tiled floors. Its self-adhesive fiberglass backing allows for straightforward installation under ceramic, natural stone, or other tile surfaces. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective installation, operation, and maintenance of your heating system.

Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and retain it for future reference.

2. Safety Instructions

  • Professional Installation Recommended: Installation of this electric heating system should ideally be performed by a qualified electrician or a professional familiar with electrical heating systems and local building codes.
  • Electrical Safety: Ensure the main power supply is disconnected before any installation, maintenance, or repair work. All electrical connections must comply with local electrical regulations.
  • Grounding: The heating mat must be properly grounded to prevent electrical shock.
  • IPX7 Protection: The heating mat has an IPX7 protection rating, making it suitable for wet areas like bathrooms. However, ensure all electrical connections outside the mat itself are protected from moisture according to their respective IP ratings.
  • No Overlapping: Do not overlap the heating cables or mats. This can lead to overheating and damage.
  • No Cutting Heating Cables: Do not cut or shorten the heating cables. This will alter the resistance and can cause malfunction or damage. The fiberglass mesh can be cut to shape the mat, but avoid cutting the heating cables.
  • Thermostat Requirement: This heating mat requires an external thermostat for operation and temperature control. The thermostat is not included with this specific model and must be purchased separately.
  • Floor Sensor: Always install a floor temperature sensor with your thermostat for optimal control and safety.
  • Avoid Damage: Be careful not to damage the heating cables during installation. Avoid sharp objects, heavy tools, or excessive bending.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation if installing in a confined space, though typically underfloor heating is sealed.

3. Package Contents

Upon opening the package, please verify that all components are present and undamaged:

  • WARMTEC Electric Underfloor Heating Mat (1m² - 2m)
  • Instruction Manual (this document)

Note: A thermostat and floor temperature sensor are required for operation and are sold separately.

4. Setup and Installation

The WARMTEC heating mat is designed for easy installation. However, due to its electrical nature, professional installation is strongly recommended.

4.1 Pre-Installation Checks

  • Ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, and level.
  • Calculate the required heating area accurately. This model covers 1m² (mat dimensions: 0.5m x 2m).
  • Verify that the electrical supply (230V) is available and suitable for the mat's power consumption (170 W/m²).
  • Plan the layout of the mat, ensuring it does not overlap and avoids areas where permanent fixtures (e.g., bathtubs, toilets, fixed cabinets) will be placed directly on top.
  • Ensure you have a suitable thermostat and floor sensor ready for installation.

4.2 Installation Steps

  1. Prepare the Subfloor: Clean the subfloor thoroughly. If necessary, apply a primer suitable for your flooring adhesive.
  2. Lay the Heating Mat: Unroll the self-adhesive heating mat onto the prepared subfloor according to your planned layout. The self-adhesive backing helps secure the mat in place during installation.
  3. WARMTEC heating mat being installed under a floor

  4. Shape the Mat: To navigate corners or obstacles, you can cut the fiberglass mesh (do not cut the red heating cables!) and turn the mat to fit the desired area.
  5. WARMTEC heating mat rolled up and partially unrolled

Image: A WARMTEC heating mat, partially unrolled, showing the heating cables embedded in the mesh and the connection cable.

  6. Install Floor Sensor: Route the floor temperature sensor cable from the thermostat location to a position between two heating cables, equidistant from them. Ensure the sensor is fully embedded in the tile adhesive/leveling compound and does not touch the heating cables.
  7. Connect to Thermostat: Connect the heating mat's power cable (4m length) and the floor sensor cable to the appropriate terminals on your thermostat, following the thermostat's instructions. Ensure all electrical connections are secure and insulated.
  8. Apply Leveling Compound/Tile Adhesive: Once the mat and sensor are in place and connections are made, apply a flexible leveling compound or tile adhesive over the mat, ensuring full coverage and no air pockets.
  9. Install Flooring: Install your chosen floor covering (tiles, ceramic, natural stone) according to the manufacturer's guidelines.
  10. Final Electrical Connection: Have a qualified electrician make the final connection of the thermostat to the main power supply.

Important: Do not switch on the heating system until the tile adhesive or leveling compound has fully cured, typically 7-28 days, depending on the product used. Refer to the adhesive/compound manufacturer's instructions.

5. Operating Instructions

The WARMTEC Electric Underfloor Heating Mat operates in conjunction with an external thermostat (not included). The thermostat controls the on/off cycles of the heating mat to maintain the desired floor or ambient temperature.

  • Thermostat Control: Refer to your specific thermostat's instruction manual for detailed operating procedures, programming, and temperature settings.
  • Initial Startup: After the curing period of the flooring adhesive, gradually increase the temperature setting on your thermostat over a few days to allow the system to acclimate.
  • Energy Efficiency: For optimal energy efficiency, program your thermostat to heat only when necessary, such as during peak usage times or when lower temperatures are desired.
  • Floor Coverings: Ensure that any rugs or furniture placed on the heated floor allow for adequate heat dissipation. Avoid placing thick, insulating items directly over the heated area for extended periods, as this can lead to localized overheating.

6. Maintenance

The WARMTEC Electric Underfloor Heating Mat is designed to be maintenance-free once installed correctly. However, general care for your flooring and electrical system is advised:

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean your floor covering as recommended by its manufacturer.
  • Electrical Checks: Periodically, or if you suspect an issue, have a qualified electrician inspect the electrical connections and the thermostat.
  • Avoid Damage: Be cautious when performing any work on or near the floor that could potentially damage the heating cables (e.g., drilling, nailing). Always know the exact location of your heating cables.

7. Troubleshooting

If your WARMTEC Electric Underfloor Heating Mat is not functioning as expected, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • No Heat:
    • Check if the thermostat is switched on and set to a temperature above the current room/floor temperature.
    • Verify that the circuit breaker for the heating system has not tripped.
    • Ensure all electrical connections at the thermostat are secure.
    • Consult your thermostat's manual for specific error codes or diagnostic steps.
  • Uneven Heating:
    • Ensure no insulating objects (e.g., thick rugs, beanbags) are covering parts of the floor, which can trap heat.
    • If the issue persists, it may indicate a fault within the mat, requiring professional assessment.
  • Thermostat Malfunction:
    • If the thermostat display is blank or showing errors, refer to its specific manual.
    • Ensure the floor sensor is correctly installed and connected. A faulty sensor can lead to incorrect temperature readings.

If you are unable to resolve the issue after following these steps, please contact a qualified electrician or WARMTEC customer support. Do not attempt to repair the heating mat yourself.
