3. Setup Instructions

3.1. Installing Storage Drives (M.2 and U.2 SSDs)

The FS510402D supports both M.2 and U.2 solid-state drives. Ensure the device is powered off and disconnected from the power source before installing or removing any drives.

  1. Accessing Drive Bays: Refer to the product's physical design to locate the M.2 and U.2 drive bays. These are typically accessible by opening the top or side panel.
  2. M.2 SSD Installation:
    • Carefully insert the M.2 SSD into the designated slot at an angle.
    • Gently push down the SSD and secure it with the provided screw or retention mechanism.
    • Note: Only 2280 size M.2 SSDs are compatible.
  3. U.2 SSD Installation:
    • Slide the U.2 SSD into its bay until it clicks into place.

3.2. Initial Connections

  1. Power Connection: Connect the power adapter to the DC Power Input port on the rear panel, then plug the adapter into a power outlet.
  2. Network Connection: Connect one or both 10G RJ45 ports to your network router or switch using Ethernet cables. For optimal performance, use Cat6a or Cat7 cables with 10G switches.
  3. Display Connection (Optional): If you plan to use the device as a mini PC or for initial setup requiring a display, connect an HDMI or Mini DP cable from the device to your monitor. A Mini DP to HDMI cable is included.
  4. USB Peripherals (Optional): Connect a keyboard, mouse, or other USB devices to the available USB ports.

3.3. Operating System Installation

The XikeStor FS510402D comes with a built-in 128GB SSD system drive, allowing for flexible operating system installation. You can install various x86-compatible systems such as Windows, TrueNAS, Linux distributions, or other preferred NAS operating systems.

  1. Prepare Installation Media: Create a bootable USB drive with your chosen operating system's installation image.
  2. Boot from USB: Power on the device and access the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing DEL or F2 during startup) to set the USB drive as the primary boot device.
  3. Install OS: Follow the on-screen instructions to install the operating system onto the internal 128GB SSD or a designated storage drive.
  4. Driver Installation: After OS installation, install any necessary drivers for optimal hardware performance.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Powering On and Off

  • Power On: Press the Power Button on the front panel. The system status indicators will illuminate.
  • Normal Shutdown: It is recommended to shut down the operating system gracefully through its interface before pressing the Power Button or disconnecting power.
  • Forced Shutdown: In emergencies, press and hold the Power Button for 5-7 seconds until the device powers off. This should be avoided to prevent data corruption.

4.2. Network Configuration

The FS510402D features dual 10G RJ45 network ports for high-speed data transfer. These ports support link aggregation to achieve speeds up to 20Gbps when connected to a compatible 10G switch.

  • Single Port Use: Connect one 10G RJ45 port to your network for standard 10Gbps connectivity.
  • Link Aggregation (LAG): To enable 20Gbps speeds, connect both 10G RJ45 ports to a 10G switch that supports Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) or similar bonding technologies. Configure LAG within your operating system's network settings and on your switch.
  • IP Address: Configure the IP address settings (DHCP or Static) through your operating system's network interface.

4.3. Data Management and Expansion

  • Internal Storage: Manage your installed M.2 and U.2 SSDs through your chosen operating system's storage management tools. Create RAID arrays, volumes, and shares as needed.
  • USB-C Ports: The two 40Gbps USB-C ports can be used for connecting high-speed external storage devices or Thunderbolt expansion enclosures for additional capacity or peripherals.
  • USB 3.2 Ports: Use these ports for connecting external hard drives, USB flash drives, or other USB 3.2 compatible devices for quick data backup or transfer.
  • SD Slot: Insert SD cards for direct data access or backup.

4.4. Video Output

The FS510402D supports dual video output via HDMI and Mini DP ports, allowing connection to two displays simultaneously.

5. Maintenance

5.1. Cooling System

The FS510402D is equipped with a PWM temperature-controlled cooling module to ensure stable performance during prolonged operation. Regular maintenance of the cooling system is crucial.
