Operating Instructions

Smart Auto Mode

In Smart Auto Mode, the TM-510 automatically detects the type of measurement (AC/DC voltage, resistance, or continuity) without requiring manual selection. Simply connect the test leads to the object being measured.

Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Function

The NCV function allows for safe detection of AC voltage without direct contact. This is useful for identifying live wires or checking for voltage in outlets.

  1. Ensure test leads are disconnected from the multimeter.
  2. Press and hold the "NCV" button (leftmost button). The display will show "NCV".
  3. Bring the top edge of the multimeter (NCV sensing area) close to the object you wish to test.
  4. The device will emit an audible alarm and a visual indicator (red light for high voltage, green for low voltage) if AC voltage is detected.

AC/DC Voltage Measurement

To measure voltage, ensure the test leads are correctly inserted into the multimeter. The Smart Auto Mode will automatically detect AC or DC voltage.

  1. Connect the red test lead to the positive (+) point and the black test lead to the negative (-) point of the circuit or component.
  2. The multimeter will display the voltage reading.

Resistance and Continuity Measurement

In Smart Auto Mode, the multimeter will automatically switch to resistance or continuity measurement when appropriate. For example, if the detected battery voltage is below 0.8V, the device will automatically measure resistance.

  1. Connect the test leads across the component or circuit you wish to measure.
  2. For continuity, the multimeter will emit an audible beep if a continuous path is detected.
  3. For resistance, the display will show the resistance value in Ohms (Ω).

Data Hold Function

To hold a measurement on the display, briefly press the "H/NCV" button (leftmost button) during a measurement. The "H" icon will appear on the screen. Press the button again to release the hold function.

Backlight and Flashlight

  • Backlight: Briefly press the "Backlight/Flashlight" button (rightmost button) to turn the display backlight on or off.
  • Flashlight: Press and hold the "Backlight/Flashlight" button to activate the built-in flashlight on the back of the device. Release to turn off.

Safety Information

The TESMEN TM-510 is CAT II 600V, CE, and RoHS certified, incorporating overload protection for user safety. The outer silicone cover provides additional protection against damage and potential electric shock.

  • Always ensure the test leads are properly connected before taking measurements.
  • Do not attempt to measure voltages exceeding the CAT II 600V rating.
  • Use the Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) function to verify live circuits before making direct contact.
  • Never attempt to measure current directly without proper understanding and safety precautions, as this multimeter is primarily designed for voltage, resistance, and continuity.
  • If the device detects battery voltage below 0.8V in auto mode, it will automatically measure resistance.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the multimeter with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Follow the battery installation steps in the Setup section.
  • Storage: Store the multimeter in its provided storage bag in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Test Leads: Inspect test leads regularly for any signs of damage or wear. Replace them if necessary to ensure accurate and safe operation.

Troubleshooting

  • No Display/Power: Check if batteries are correctly installed and charged. Replace if necessary.
  • Inaccurate Readings: Ensure test leads are securely connected and not damaged. Verify the measurement mode is appropriate (though Auto Mode handles most).
  • No Continuity Beep: Check if the circuit is truly continuous. Ensure test leads are making good contact.
  • Auto Shutdown: The device features automatic shutdown after 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life. Press the power button to restart.
