3. Setup and Initial Use

3.1 Charging the Battery

The BCD712VHD features an integrated 12V 1.5Ah Lithium-Ion battery. Before first use, fully charge the battery.

  1. Connect the bivolt charger to a standard electrical outlet.
  2. Insert the charging cable into the charging port on the drill/driver.
  3. The battery indicator light will show the charging status. Allow the battery to charge until the indicator shows a full charge.
  4. Once fully charged, disconnect the charger.

Important: Do not store the tool with a completely discharged battery. Recharge it periodically if not used for extended periods to maintain battery health.

3.2 Installing Drill Bits or Screwdriver Bits

  1. Ensure the tool is switched off and the forward/reverse selector is in the center (locked) position.
  2. Rotate the chuck counter-clockwise to open the jaws.
  3. Insert the desired drill bit or screwdriver bit into the chuck. Ensure it is inserted as far as possible.
  4. Rotate the chuck clockwise to tighten the jaws securely around the bit. Hand-tighten firmly.
  5. For screwdriver bits, you can use the magnetic adapter for easier bit changes and retention.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On/Off and Variable Speed Control

The tool is activated by pressing the trigger switch. The speed is variable, meaning the more you press the trigger, the faster the tool operates, up to a maximum of 900 RPM. Release the trigger to turn the tool off.

4.2 Forward/Reverse Selector

Located above the trigger, the forward/reverse selector allows you to change the direction of rotation.

  • Push the selector to the left for forward rotation (for drilling and tightening screws).
  • Push the selector to the right for reverse rotation (for removing screws or backing out drill bits).
  • When the selector is in the center position, the trigger is locked, preventing accidental startup. Always engage the lock when not in use or when changing accessories.

4.3 Torque Adjustment and Mode Selection

The BCD712VHD features a clutch mechanism for torque adjustment and a mode selector for drilling and impact drilling.

  • Torque Settings: Rotate the collar behind the chuck to select the desired torque setting for screwdriving. Lower numbers are for smaller screws and softer materials, higher numbers for larger screws and harder materials. This prevents overtightening and stripping screw heads.
  • Drill Mode: For general drilling in wood and metal, select the drill symbol on the collar. The clutch will be disengaged, providing full power.
  • Impact Drill Mode: For drilling in masonry and harder materials, select the hammer symbol. This mode activates the impact mechanism, providing rapid hammering action in addition to rotation.
