6. Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage during transit.
- Hose Connection:
- Attach the provided hose adapter to the pump's discharge port (NPT 1-1/2").
- Connect the 75FT backwash hose to the hose adapter.
- Secure the hose connection using the two included hose clamps to prevent leaks and disconnections during operation.
- Placement:
- Place the pump on a stable, level surface in the area to be drained.
- Ensure the pump is fully submerged in water before starting. The minimum water level for operation is approximately 1.5 inches.
- Position the discharge hose to direct water away from the area being drained and towards a suitable disposal location, ensuring it does not create a new flooding hazard.
- Electrical Connection:
- Connect the pump's power cord to a grounded electrical outlet.
- Ensure the outlet is protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) for safety.
- Verify the voltage of the power supply matches the pump's requirements.
7. Operating Instructions
The FOTING Sump Pump features both automatic and manual operating modes.
7.1. Automatic Mode
In automatic mode, the pump will start and stop based on the water level, controlled by the integrated float switch.
- Ensure the float switch is free to move and not obstructed by any objects or the pump itself.
- Plug the pump into the GFCI-protected outlet.
- As the water level rises, the float switch will lift. When it reaches a certain height, the pump will automatically activate and begin draining water.
- Once the water level drops and the float switch lowers, the pump will automatically shut off.
This mode is ideal for continuous monitoring and drainage of basements or areas prone to flooding.
7.2. Manual Mode
Manual mode allows the pump to operate continuously, regardless of the water level, until unplugged.
- To engage manual mode, use the snap-on design of the float switch to keep it in an uplifted position. This bypasses the automatic shut-off mechanism.
- Plug the pump into the GFCI-protected outlet. The pump will start immediately.
- Important: Monitor the pump closely in manual mode to prevent it from running dry, which can cause severe damage. Unplug the pump once the desired water level is reached or the area is drained.
Manual mode is useful for quickly draining specific areas or when precise control over the drainage process is required.
8. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your FOTING Sump Pump.
- Before Maintenance: Always disconnect the pump from the power supply before performing any cleaning or maintenance.
- Cleaning the Pump:
- The pump features a removable base for easy cleaning. Detach the base and clear any debris, sediment, or foreign objects that may have accumulated around the impeller or inlet screen.
- Rinse the pump thoroughly with clean water.
- Float Switch Inspection: Periodically check the float switch for free movement. Ensure it is not clogged with debris or stuck in any position.
- Hose Inspection: Inspect the backwash hose for any signs of wear, tears, or damage. Replace if necessary to prevent leaks.
- Storage: If storing the pump for an extended period, clean it thoroughly, drain all water, and store it in a dry, frost-free location.
- No Maintenance Required: The pump is designed with a mechanically sealed, oil-free PSC motor, requiring no routine lubrication or internal maintenance.
9. Troubleshooting
Refer to the following table for common issues and their solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not start | No power supply | Check power cord, outlet, and GFCI. Ensure power is on. |
| Float switch stuck (Automatic Mode) | Ensure float switch moves freely. Clear any obstructions. | |
| Low water level (Automatic Mode) | Wait for water level to rise or operate in manual mode (with caution). | |
| Pump runs but no water is discharged | Discharge hose kinked or blocked | Check and clear any kinks or blockages in the hose. |
| Impeller or inlet screen clogged | Disconnect power, remove base, and clean impeller/inlet screen. | |
| Pump cycles on and off frequently | Float switch restricted or water level fluctuating | Ensure float switch has full range of motion. Check for consistent water inflow. |
| Reduced pumping capacity | Partial blockage in pump or hose | Clean pump inlet, impeller, and check hose for partial blockages. |
| Excessive lift height or long hose run | Ensure pump is within its specified max head and hose length limits. |
