5. Installation

Important: Ensure power is disconnected at the main circuit breaker before proceeding with installation.

  1. Mounting: Securely attach the NOUS D5Z Pro to a standard 35mm DIN rail within your electrical distribution box. Ensure it clicks firmly into place.
  2. Wiring: Connect the live (L) and neutral (N) wires from your main power supply to the corresponding 'L' and 'N' input terminals on the device. Connect the load (appliance) wires to the 'Load L' and 'Load N' output terminals. Use appropriate wire gauges for the expected current. The terminals are screw-type.
  3. Current Clamp (Optional for detailed monitoring): If your model includes a current clamp for detailed current measurement, route the live wire of the circuit you wish to monitor through the clamp and connect the clamp's wires to the designated terminals on the D5Z Pro.
  4. Power On: Once all connections are secure and verified, restore power at the main circuit breaker. The device's status indicator should light up.

6. Initial Setup & Pairing

A ZigBee hub (e.g., NOUS E1/E7, Tuya gateway, Zigbee2MQTT, Home Assistant with ZHA) is required to connect the D5Z Pro to the Nous Smart Home application and other smart home platforms.

  1. Power On: Ensure the D5Z Pro is powered on. The red LED indicator should blink slowly, indicating it's ready for pairing.
  2. Enter Pairing Mode: Press and hold the power button on the device for approximately 5 seconds until the LED blinks rapidly. This indicates the device is in pairing mode.
  3. Open Smart Home App: Open your Nous Smart Home application or your preferred ZigBee hub's application (e.g., Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT interface).
  4. Add Device: Follow the instructions in your app to add a new ZigBee device. The app should detect the D5Z Pro.
  5. Confirmation: Once successfully paired, the LED indicator on the D5Z Pro will stop blinking and remain solid, and the device will appear in your app.

7. Operating the Device

The NOUS D5Z Pro can be operated in several ways:

  • Manual Control: Press the physical power button on the front of the device to manually switch the connected load ON or OFF.
  • Nous Smart App Control: Use the Nous Smart Home application on your smartphone or tablet to remotely switch the device ON or OFF. The app also allows you to set schedules and create automation rules.
  • Voice Control: If integrated with Alexa or Google Home, use voice commands such as "Alexa, turn on [device name]" or "Hey Google, turn off [device name]".
  • Smart Home Automation: Configure automation rules within your ZigBee hub or smart home platform to control the device based on various triggers (e.g., time of day, sensor input).

10. Troubleshooting

  • Device Not Responding:
    • Check if the device is powered on and the LED indicator is active.
    • Verify the ZigBee network connection. Ensure your ZigBee hub is online and within range.
    • Try re-pairing the device with your ZigBee hub.
    • Ensure the connected load is not exceeding the device's maximum current rating (63A peak, 32A continuous).
  • No Energy Data:
    • Ensure the device is properly connected to the electrical circuit.
    • If using an external current clamp, verify it is correctly installed and connected to the D5Z Pro.
    • Check the Nous Smart app or your smart home platform for any data display issues.
  • Difficulty Pairing:
    • Ensure the device is in pairing mode (rapidly blinking LED).
    • Move the device closer to your ZigBee hub during the pairing process.
    • Ensure your ZigBee hub is compatible with ZigBee 3.0 devices.
    • Reset the device to factory settings (refer to your hub's documentation for specific reset procedures, often involves holding the button for an extended period).
  • Slow Response Time:
    • A crowded ZigBee network can sometimes cause delays. Consider adding more ZigBee router devices to strengthen your mesh network.
