1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation of your VEVOR 224.5GPH Canister Filter. Designed for aquariums ranging from 35 to 55 gallons, this 2-stage external filter ensures clear water quality through multi-layer filtration and features a built-in 7W UV lamp for enhanced water purification. Please read these instructions thoroughly before installation and use.

2. Safety Information

• Always unplug the filter from the power outlet before performing any maintenance, cleaning, or when handling the unit.
• Ensure all electrical connections are dry and away from water to prevent electric shock.
• Do not operate the filter if the power cord or plug is damaged.
• Ensure the filter is placed on a stable, level surface below the aquarium water level to facilitate proper siphoning and operation.
• The filter is designed for indoor use only.

4. Setup Instructions

4.1. Filter Media Preparation

The VEVOR canister filter features a multi-layer filtration system. Arrange the provided filter media into the media baskets as follows:

1. Remove the filter head by unbuckling the four card buckles and lifting the motor unit.
2. Carefully remove the media baskets from the filter body.
3. Place the loose ceramic rings and 1cm black media pad into the bottom basket (Layer 1).
4. Place the white media pad into the upper basket (Layer 2).
5. Ensure all media is rinsed with aquarium water before placement to remove any dust.
6. Reinsert the filled media baskets into the filter body, ensuring they are properly stacked.

4.2. Assembling Water Inlet & Outlet Pipes

Assemble the water inlet and outlet pipe systems according to the diagrams. Connect the silicone tubing to the assembled pipes and seal them tightly by screwing the connectors.

4.3. Connecting Hoses to the Filter Unit

Connect the assembled water inlet and outlet hoses to the corresponding ports on the filter head. Ensure the connections are tightened securely to prevent leaks. The 'IN' port is for water entering the filter, and 'OUT' is for filtered water returning to the aquarium.

4.4. Filter Placement

Place the filter unit on a flat, stable surface. The filter must be positioned 15.75-43.3 inches (40-110 cm) below the aquarium water level to ensure proper water circulation and siphoning.

4.5. Priming the Filter

Before plugging in the filter, it must be primed to fill the unit with water and remove air. There are two methods:

1. Siphon Water Filling Nozzle: Adjust the water flow control handle on the filter head to the minimum flow end. Unscrew the cap of the water filling nozzle on the water inlet pipe and slowly add water until the inlet pipe system is full. Water will automatically run into the filter.
2. Lift-Pull Valve: Lift up and push down the lift-pull vent valve on the filter head repeatedly to drain air out of the system. Water will be sucked into the filter.

Once the filter is filled with water and air is drained, plug in the filter. The filter system will begin operating.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Water Flow Adjustment

The filter features a flow control valve on the filter head. Adjust this handle to precisely control the inlet and outlet water flow to suit your aquarium's needs. Moving the handle towards the maximum flow end increases water circulation, while moving it towards the minimum flow end reduces it.

5.2. UV Light Operation

The filter includes a built-in 7W UV lamp to help control algae and harmful bacteria. To activate the UV light, press the dedicated button on the filter head. Press it again to turn it off.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal filter performance and water quality.

6.1. Cleaning Filter Media

1. Unplug the filter from the power outlet.
2. Close the inlet and outlet valves on the filter head.
3. Unbuckle the four card buckles and carefully lift the motor unit.
4. Remove the media baskets.
5. Rinse the filter pads and ceramic rings with old aquarium water (not tap water) to preserve beneficial bacteria. Replace media as needed.
6. Reassemble the media baskets and place them back into the filter body.

6.2. Impeller Cleaning

The impeller should be cleaned periodically to ensure quiet and efficient operation.

1. After removing the filter head (motor unit), locate the impeller cover.
2. Unscrew the screws of the impeller lid using a Phillips screwdriver.
3. Remove the impeller lid and carefully pull out the impeller and its axis.
4. Clean the impeller and its housing with a soft brush and water.
5. Reassemble the impeller, lid, and motor unit.

6.3. UV Light Bulb Replacement

The 7W UV lamp has a limited lifespan and should be replaced periodically to maintain effectiveness.

1. Ensure the filter is unplugged.
2. Remove the motor unit from the filter body.
3. Unscrew the screws of the UV light case on the motor unit.
4. Carefully remove the case and then the UV light bulb.
5. Replace with a new 7W UV bulb, ensuring it is properly seated.
6. Reassemble the UV light case and motor unit.

7. Troubleshooting

• Reduced Water Flow: Check for clogged filter media, kinks in hoses, or a dirty impeller. Clean or replace components as necessary. Ensure the flow control valve is fully open.
• Filter Not Starting: Ensure the unit is properly plugged in. Verify that the filter is primed and filled with water. Check if the impeller is correctly installed and free of obstructions.
• Excessive Noise: Air trapped in the filter can cause noise. Re-prime the filter to remove air. Check for proper impeller installation and ensure it is clean.
• Water Leakage: Ensure all hose connections are tight and O-rings are properly seated and not damaged. Check the filter head buckles are securely fastened.
