6. Setup

Follow these steps to prepare your crimping tool for use:

  1. Attach Crimping Head:
    • Locate the pin on the main body of the tool. Rotate the pin release lever and pull the pin straight out.
    • Align the crimping head with the main body and slide it into place.
    • Re-insert the pin and twist the release lever to lock the crimping head securely.
  2. Install Crimping Jaws:
    • Select the appropriate jaw size (1/2", 3/4", or 1") for your copper pipe.
    • Pull back the small pin on the crimping head to retract the internal locking mechanism.
    • Insert one half of the crimping jaw into the head, ensuring it sits flush.
    • Release the pin to secure the first half. Repeat for the second half of the jaw.
  3. Prepare Pipe:
    • Cut the copper pipe to the desired length using the included pipe cutter.
    • Use the deburring tool to remove any burrs from the inside and outside edges of the cut pipe. This ensures a proper fit and seal.

7. Operating Instructions

Once the tool is set up and the pipe is prepared, follow these steps to perform a crimp:

  1. Insert Pipe and Fitting:
    • Slide the copper pipe into the fitting.
    • Open the crimping head by twisting the reset knob on the hydraulic cylinder to the "Reset" position (counter-clockwise) and allowing the jaws to fully open.
    • Position the open crimping jaws around the fitting on the pipe. Ensure the fitting is centered within the jaws.
    • If needed, utilize the 360° rotating head to achieve the best angle for crimping in tight spaces.
  2. Initiate Crimping:
    • Twist the reset knob to the "Work" position (clockwise) to close the hydraulic valve.
    • Begin pumping the handle repeatedly. The hydraulic piston will extend, causing the jaws to close and crimp the fitting.
    • Continue pumping until the jaws are fully closed and you feel significant resistance, indicating a complete crimp. Do not over-pump.
  3. Release and Inspect:
    • Once crimping is complete, twist the reset knob back to the "Reset" position (counter-clockwise) to release the hydraulic pressure. The jaws will retract.
    • Remove the crimped pipe and fitting from the tool.
    • Visually inspect the crimp to ensure it is uniform and secure, with no gaps or damage.
