Image 2.1: Key components of the infrared thermometer.

  • LCD Display: Shows temperature readings, measurement modes, emissivity, and unit indicators.
  • Infrared Lens: Detects infrared radiation for non-contact temperature measurement.
  • Dual Laser Pointers: Helps to accurately target the measurement area.
  • Trigger: Activates the measurement and laser.
  • Battery Door: Access for 9V battery replacement.

2.2 Button Functions

The device is operated using several buttons on the control panel:

  • Trigger: Press and hold to initiate a temperature measurement. Release to hold the reading.
  • E/T Button: When the product is working, press to enter the setting emissivity mode. Long press to turn the flashlight on/off.
  • T/DN Button: Used for °C/°F unit conversion. In emissivity setting mode, it reduces the emissivity value.
  • Backlight/UP Button: Activates the display backlight. In emissivity setting mode, it increases the emissivity value.
  • MODE Button: Cycles through various measurement options: MAX (Maximum), MIN (Minimum), AVG (Average), DIF (Difference), HAL (High Alarm), LAL (Low Alarm).
  • Laser Button: Toggles the laser pointer on or off.

3. Operation

3.1 Basic Temperature Measurement

To take a temperature reading:

  1. Point the infrared lens towards the target surface.
  2. Press and hold the Trigger. The laser pointers will indicate the measurement area.
  3. The temperature reading will appear on the LCD display.
  4. Release the Trigger to hold the current reading on the display. The device will automatically shut off after 10 seconds of inactivity to conserve battery.

3.2 Distance-to-Spot Ratio (D:S)

The HOLDPEAK 1500APP has a D:S ratio of 30:1. This means that at a distance of 30 units from the target, the measurement spot diameter will be 1 unit. A higher D:S ratio allows for accurate measurements of smaller areas from a greater distance, which is beneficial for safety when measuring high-temperature or hazardous surfaces.

Diagram illustrating the 30:1 Distance-to-Spot ratio of the infrared thermometer, showing how the measurement spot size increases with distance from the target.

Image 3.1: Distance-to-Spot Ratio (D:S) explanation.

3.3 Adjustable Emissivity

Emissivity (ε) is a measure of an object's ability to emit infrared energy. Different materials have different emissivity values. For accurate readings, adjust the emissivity setting (0.1 to 1.0) to match the surface being measured.

  1. While the device is on, press the E/T button to enter emissivity setting mode. The emissivity value will flash on the display.
  2. Use the Backlight/UP button to increase the value or the T/DN button to decrease it.
  3. Press the E/T button again or wait a few seconds for the setting to be saved and exit the mode.
Examples of adjustable emissivity settings for different materials like aluminum (0.30) and ice (0.95) on the infrared thermometer display.

Image 3.2: Adjustable emissivity for various materials.

3.4 Measurement Modes

Press the MODE button to cycle through the following measurement modes:

  • MAX: Displays the maximum temperature recorded during the current measurement session.
  • MIN: Displays the minimum temperature recorded during the current measurement session.
  • AVG: Displays the average temperature recorded during the current measurement session.
  • DIF: Displays the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded.
  • HAL (High Alarm): Allows setting a high-temperature alarm threshold. If the measured temperature exceeds this value, an alarm will trigger.
  • LAL (Low Alarm): Allows setting a low-temperature alarm threshold. If the measured temperature falls below this value, an alarm will trigger.

3.5 Unit Conversion (°F/°C)

To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F), press the T/DN button during normal operation.

3.6 Data Logging and Analysis (via APP)

When connected to the 'AiLink' APP via Bluetooth, the thermometer can log temperature data over time. The APP allows you to:

  • View real-time temperature readings.
  • Record and store measurement data.
  • Analyze temperature trends and historical data.
  • Set high/low temperature alarms directly from the APP.
  • Adjust emissivity and other settings remotely.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

To maintain the accuracy and longevity of your thermometer, wipe it clean with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the device in water.

4.2 Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the 9V battery by following the steps outlined in Section 1.2 Battery Installation.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your HOLDPEAK 1500APP Infrared Thermometer, consider the following:

  • No Power: Check if the 9V battery is correctly installed and has sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
  • Inaccurate Readings: Ensure the emissivity setting matches the material being measured. Verify the D:S ratio is appropriate for your measurement distance and target size. Clean the infrared lens if it is dirty.
  • APP Connection Issues: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on both the thermometer and your smartphone. Make sure the 'AiLink' APP is open and actively searching for devices. Restart both the thermometer and the APP if connection fails.
  • Laser Not Working: Check if the laser pointer button has been pressed to activate it.
  • Display Not Visible: Activate the backlight using the Backlight/UP button.

For further assistance, refer to the manufacturer's support resources.
