1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of your BILT HARD 713cc 23 HP Two-Cylinder Single-Engine. This horizontal 4-stroke gas-powered engine is designed for a wide range of applications, including log splitters, pressure washers, and water pumps. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the engine.

2. Safety Information
WARNING:
- Always operate the engine in a well-ventilated area to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Keep hands, feet, and clothing away from moving parts.
- Fuel is highly flammable. Handle with care and avoid spills. Do not refuel while the engine is running or hot.
- Ensure the engine is stable and on a level surface during operation and maintenance.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves and eye protection.
3. Setup and Pre-Operation Checks
3.1. Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove the engine from its packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage during shipping. Ensure all components are present as listed in the packing list.
3.2. Adding Engine Oil
The engine is shipped without oil. It is crucial to add the correct type and amount of engine oil before the first start. Use SAE 10W-30 APISJ or higher engine oil.
- Remove the oil dipstick.
- Using a funnel, slowly add the recommended engine oil.
- Check the oil level using the dipstick. The oil level should be between the upper and lower marks on the dipstick when inserted without screwing it in.
- Securely replace the oil dipstick.

3.3. Adding Fuel
Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 (AKI) or higher.
- Open the fuel tank cap.
- Carefully pour gasoline into the fuel tank, ensuring not to overfill. The maximum fuel level should be approximately 25 mm (1 inch) below the top of the fuel tank.
- Securely replace the fuel tank cap.

3.4. General Pre-Operation Checks
Before each use, perform the following checks:
- Verify the engine's overall integrity.
- Ensure spark plugs are correctly connected.
- Check the air filter for any abnormalities or blockages.
- Confirm the speed controller operates normally.
- Check the brake position (if applicable to your equipment).
- Ensure the surrounding area is clear of foreign objects.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Starting the Engine
- Open the fuel valve to the ON position.
- For a cold engine, move the choke lever to the CHOKE position (OFF). For a warm engine, leave the choke lever in the RUN position (ON).
- Adjust the throttle lever to a position about 1/3 of the way from "MIN." to "MAX."
- Turn the engine switch to the ON position.
- Pull the starter grip lightly until you feel resistance, then pull briskly and return it gently.

4.2. Stopping the Engine
- Move the throttle lever to the MIN position.
- Turn the engine switch to the OFF position.
- Close the fuel valve.
5. Maintenance
5.1. Air Filter Maintenance
Clean the air filter element every 50 hours of operation (or more frequently in dusty conditions). A dirty air filter can reduce engine performance and lifespan.
- Open the air filter cover.
- Remove the air filter element.
- Clean the element by blowing out dust with compressed air or tapping it lightly. If it's a foam element, wash it in soapy water, rinse, and let it dry completely before reinstallation.
- Reinstall the air filter element and cover.

5.2. General Maintenance Tips
- Regularly check and maintain engine oil levels.
- Keep the engine clean and free of debris.
- Inspect all connections and fasteners for tightness.
- The engine features a splash-lubrication system for efficient operation.
6. Troubleshooting
If the engine fails to start or operate correctly, perform the following basic checks:
- Engine does not start: Check fuel level, oil level, spark plug connection, and ensure the engine switch is ON and choke is set correctly.
- Loss of power: Inspect the air filter for clogs, check fuel quality, and ensure the throttle is fully open.
- Excessive smoke: Verify correct oil level and type.
For more complex issues, consult a qualified service technician.
