5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

After connecting the power and data cables, press the power button located on the rear of the enclosure to turn it on. The LED indicators on the front will illuminate. To power off, press the power button again.

5.2 Drive Recognition

Once powered on and connected to your computer, the installed drives should be automatically recognized by your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux). You may need to format new drives before use.

5.3 Daisy-Chaining Multiple Enclosures

The ORICO 9958C3 supports daisy-chaining up to three units for a total capacity of 330TB. Connect the 'HUB' USB-C port of the first enclosure to the 'Main' USB-C port of the second enclosure, and so on. Ensure all enclosures are powered on.

5.5 Smart Sleep Mode

The enclosure is equipped with a Smart Sleep Mode. If there is no data activity for 10 minutes, the drives will automatically enter hibernation to conserve power and extend drive lifespan. Activity will resume upon data access.

6. Maintenance

  • Keep the enclosure clean and free from dust to ensure optimal airflow and cooling.
  • Ensure the enclosure is placed in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
  • Avoid blocking the 80mm cooling fan on the rear of the unit.
  • Regularly check cable connections to ensure they are secure.

7. Troubleshooting

Issue: Drives are not recognized by the computer.
Solution:
  • Ensure the enclosure is powered on and the power cable is securely connected.
  • Verify the USB-C data cable is securely connected to both the enclosure and your computer.
  • Try connecting the enclosure to a different USB-C port on your computer.
  • Check if the drives are properly seated in their trays and the trays are fully inserted into the enclosure.
  • For new drives, ensure they are initialized and formatted through your operating system's disk management utility.
  • Test with a different USB-C data cable, as some cables may not support 10Gbps speeds.
Issue: Slow data transfer speeds.
Solution:
  • Ensure your computer's USB-C port supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) speeds. Connecting to a slower port (e.g., USB 2.0 or USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1) will limit performance.
  • Use the provided data cable or another high-quality USB 3.2 Gen 2 compatible cable.
  • Verify that the drives themselves are capable of high transfer speeds (e.g., SSDs generally perform faster than HDDs).
  • Avoid transferring many small files simultaneously, as this can reduce overall transfer rates.
Issue: Enclosure feels hot.
Solution:
  • Ensure the enclosure is placed in an area with adequate ventilation and the rear fan is not obstructed.
  • The aluminum chassis is designed to dissipate heat, so a warm exterior is normal during operation. However, excessive heat may indicate poor airflow.
  • If the fan is not spinning, check for obstructions or contact support.
