4.1 Battery Installation

The ACM91 clamp meter is powered by batteries (not included). To install or replace batteries:

  1. Ensure the meter is powered off and disconnect all test leads from the input jacks.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the meter.
  3. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw(s) on the battery cover and remove the cover.
  4. Insert the new batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
  5. Replace the battery cover and secure it with the screw(s).

4.2 Powering On/Off

Press the power button (U symbol) to turn the meter on or off. The meter features an auto-power-off function to conserve battery life if inactive for a certain period.

5. Operating Instructions

The ACM91 features intelligent automatic range selection, simplifying operation by automatically matching the optimal measurement range.

5.1 AC/DC Current Measurement (Clamp)

This function allows for non-contact current measurement, enhancing safety and efficiency.

  1. Turn the function dial to the AC or DC current measurement mode (indicated by A~ or A= symbols).
  2. Press the clamp trigger to open the jaws.
  3. Enclose only one conductor of the circuit within the clamp jaws. Ensure the jaws are fully closed.
  4. Read the current value on the LCD display.

5.2 AC/DC Voltage Measurement

  1. Insert the red test lead into the INPUT jack and the black test lead into the COM jack.
  2. Turn the function dial to the voltage measurement mode (indicated by V~ for AC or V= for DC). The meter will automatically detect AC or DC voltage.
  3. Connect the test probes in parallel to the circuit or component you wish to measure.
  4. Read the voltage value on the LCD display.

5.3 Resistance Measurement

  1. Ensure the circuit is de-energized before measuring resistance.
  2. Insert the red test lead into the INPUT jack and the black test lead into the COM jack.
  3. Turn the function dial to the resistance mode (indicated by Ω symbol).
  4. Connect the test probes across the component to be measured.
  5. Read the resistance value on the LCD display.

5.4 Capacitance Measurement

  1. Ensure the capacitor is fully discharged before measurement to prevent damage to the meter.
  2. Insert the red test lead into the INPUT jack and the black test lead into the COM jack.
  3. Turn the function dial to the capacitance mode (indicated by F symbol).
  4. Connect the test probes across the capacitor terminals.
  5. Read the capacitance value on the LCD display.

5.5 Frequency Measurement

  1. Insert the red test lead into the INPUT jack and the black test lead into the COM jack.
  2. Turn the function dial to the frequency mode (indicated by Hz symbol).
  3. Connect the test probes in parallel to the circuit where frequency is to be measured.
  4. Read the frequency value on the LCD display.

5.6 Temperature Measurement

  1. Insert the temperature probe into the INPUT and COM jacks, observing polarity if applicable.
  2. Turn the function dial to the temperature mode (indicated by °C/°F symbol).
  3. Place the tip of the temperature probe on or near the object whose temperature you wish to measure.
  4. Read the temperature value on the LCD display.

5.7 Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Detection

The NCV function allows for quick detection of AC voltage without direct contact.

  1. Turn the function dial to the NCV mode.
  2. Move the NCV sensor (located at the top of the clamp jaws) close to the conductor or outlet.
  3. The meter will emit an audible beep and the NCV indicator light will flash when AC voltage is detected.

5.8 Live Wire Check

The Live Check function helps identify live wires in a circuit.

  1. Turn the function dial to the Live Check mode (indicated by LIVE symbol).
  2. Insert the red test lead into the INPUT jack. The black test lead is not used for this function.
  3. Touch the red probe to the conductor or terminal you suspect is live.
  4. If the wire is live, the display will show 'LIVE' and an audible alarm will sound.

5.9 True RMS Function

The ACM91 features True RMS measurement, which accurately captures the effective value of AC voltage and current, even for non-sinusoidal waveforms. This provides more precise readings compared to average-responding meters, especially in circuits with electronic loads.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

Wipe the meter's case with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Keep the input jacks free of dust and debris.

6.2 Storage

If the meter is not used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the meter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

6.3 Battery Replacement

When the battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries as described in Section 4.1. Using the meter with low battery power may result in inaccurate readings.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Meter does not power on: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are not depleted. Replace if necessary.
  • No reading or 'OL' displayed: The measured value may be out of the selected range. The ACM91 is auto-ranging, but ensure the correct function is selected. For current, ensure only one conductor is clamped.
  • Inaccurate readings: Check battery level. Ensure test leads are properly connected and not damaged. Verify the correct measurement function is selected. Ensure the clamp jaws are fully closed for current measurements.
  • NCV/Live Check not working: Ensure the function is correctly selected and the sensor/probe is positioned correctly.
