Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when operating the snow blower. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death.
- Read and understand the entire manual before operating the machine.
- Keep hands, feet, and clothing away from moving parts.
- Never direct discharge towards people or property.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection and hearing protection.
- Clear the area of foreign objects that could be thrown by the auger.
- Do not operate the machine on steep slopes.
- Turn off the engine and remove the key before performing any maintenance or clearing clogs.
- Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool.
Setup and Assembly
Your Husqvarna ST124 snow blower requires minimal assembly. Follow these steps to prepare your machine for operation:
- Handlebar Assembly: Attach the lower handlebar section to the main unit using the provided bolts and knobs. Ensure all connections are secure.
- Upper Handlebar and Control Panel: Secure the upper handlebar section to the lower section. Connect any control cables (drive, auger, chute) to their respective levers on the control panel.
- Chute Assembly: Attach the snow discharge chute to the main unit. Ensure the chute rotator mechanism is correctly aligned and secured.
- Skid Shoes: Adjust the skid shoes to the desired height. For most surfaces, a medium setting is appropriate. For gravel, raise the skid shoes to prevent picking up stones.
- Tire Installation: If not pre-installed, attach the wheels to the axle using the provided pins. Ensure tires are properly inflated (refer to tire sidewall for pressure).

Operating Instructions
Pre-Operation Checklist:
- Check engine oil level.
- Fill fuel tank with fresh, unleaded gasoline (refer to engine manual for specific fuel requirements).
- Inspect the area to be cleared for any objects that could be thrown.
- Ensure all controls are functioning correctly.
Starting the Engine:
Your Husqvarna ST124 features both a pull start and an electric start for convenience.
- Fuel Valve: Turn the fuel valve to the "ON" position.
- Choke: Move the choke lever to the "FULL CHOKE" position for a cold engine. For a warm engine, use "HALF CHOKE" or no choke.
- Primer Bulb: Press the primer bulb 3-5 times (more for very cold conditions) until fuel is visible in the bulb. Do not over-prime.
- Ignition Key: Insert the ignition key and turn it to the "ON" position.
- Starting:
- Pull Start: Grasp the starter handle firmly and pull it quickly until the engine starts.
- Electric Start: Connect an extension cord to the electric start port and press the electric start button.
- Warm-up: Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke lever to the "RUN" position as the engine warms up (typically 30-60 seconds).

Operating the Snow Blower:
The control panel provides easy access to all operational functions.

Figure 4: Top view of the control panel with speed and chute controls.
- Drive Control: Engage the drive lever to move the snow blower forward or backward. Use the speed selector to choose from multiple forward and reverse speeds.
- Auger Control: Engage the auger lever to activate the auger blades for snow clearing.
- Chute Control: Use the chute rotation lever to adjust the direction of snow discharge (180-degree rotation). Use the chute deflector lever to adjust the height and distance of the snow stream.
- Headlight: Activate the LED headlight for improved visibility in low-light conditions.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your snow blower.
- Engine Oil: Check oil level before each use. Change oil after the first 5 hours of operation, then every 25 hours or annually.
- Spark Plug: Inspect and clean the spark plug annually. Replace if worn or fouled.
- Fuel System: Use a fuel stabilizer if storing the machine for extended periods. Drain the fuel tank at the end of the season if not using stabilizer.
- Auger Blades & Scraper Bar: Inspect for wear and damage. Replace worn parts to maintain clearing efficiency.
- Shear Pins: Always keep spare shear pins on hand. These are designed to break to protect the gearbox from damage if the auger hits an obstruction.
- General Cleaning: Clean the machine after each use, removing snow and debris.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine will not start | No fuel, choke not set, ignition key off, fouled spark plug. | Check fuel, set choke, turn ignition key on, clean/replace spark plug. |
| Snow blower not clearing effectively | Worn auger blades/scraper bar, clogged chute. | Inspect and replace worn parts, clear chute with clearing tool (engine off). |
| Auger not rotating | Broken shear pin, auger control not engaged. | Replace shear pin, engage auger control. |
