4. Setup and Installation
4.1 Unboxing and Component Check
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all parts listed in Section 3 are present and undamaged. If any parts are missing or damaged, contact FOTING customer service immediately.
4.2 Base Assembly
- Place the base plate on a firm, level surface near your above-ground pool.
- Position the filter tank and pump motor onto the designated slots on the base plate. Ensure they are securely seated.
4.3 Filter Media Installation
The FOTING Sand Filter Pump can use either filter sand or the included filter balls.
- Remove the 7-way valve from the top of the filter tank.
- Insert the standpipe into the center of the tank.
- Carefully add the filter media (sand or filter balls) around the standpipe. The 12-inch tank has a capacity of 44 lbs of sand. If using filter balls, use the provided 200g.
- Ensure the filter media is evenly distributed.
- Re-attach the 7-way valve to the top of the tank, ensuring a tight seal.

4.4 Hose Connections
The pump includes 2-in-1 adapters suitable for 1.25" (32mm) and 1.5" (38mm) pool hoses.
- Connect the pump's inlet to the pool's skimmer or suction line using a suitable hose and clamp.
- Connect the pump's outlet to the 7-way valve's 'PUMP' port.
- Connect the 7-way valve's 'RETURN' port to the pool's return line.
- Connect the 7-way valve's 'WASTE' port to a backwash hose leading to an appropriate drainage area.
- Ensure all connections are secure and leak-free using the provided metal rings and clamps.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 7-Way Multi-Port Valve Functions
The 7-way valve allows for various operational modes. Always turn off the pump before changing the valve position.
- 1. FILTER: Normal filtering mode. Water passes through the filter media and returns to the pool.
- 2. BACKWASH: Reverses water flow through the filter to clean the media. Water is directed to the waste port.
- 3. RINSE: Used after backwashing to flush out any remaining debris from the filter media before returning to filter mode. Water is directed to the waste port.
- 4. WASTE: Bypasses the filter and sends water directly out the waste port. Useful for vacuuming heavy debris or lowering pool water level.
- 5. RECIRCULATE: Water bypasses the filter and circulates directly back to the pool. Useful for mixing chemicals without filtering.
- 6. CLOSED: Shuts off all flow to the filter and pump. Never operate the pump in this position.
- 7. WINTER: Used for winterizing the filter to prevent damage from freezing.

5.2 Smart Programmable Timer
The integrated 24-hour timer allows for automated filtration schedules, optimizing energy use and maintaining water clarity.
- Continuous Cycle Mode: The pump automatically turns on/off daily according to your set schedule.
- Single Cycle Mode: Customize the duration for a single operation cycle.
- Use the control panel buttons to set the desired run time (up to 24 hours).

6. Maintenance
6.1 Regular Backwashing and Rinsing
Monitor the pressure gauge. When the pressure rises 8-10 PSI above the clean filter pressure, it's time to backwash.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the 7-way valve to 'BACKWASH'.
- Turn on the pump and backwash until the water in the sight glass (if present) runs clear (typically 2-3 minutes).
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the 7-way valve to 'RINSE'.
- Turn on the pump and rinse for 30-60 seconds.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the 7-way valve back to 'FILTER'.
- Turn on the pump to resume normal filtration.
6.2 Winterization
Before freezing temperatures arrive, prepare your filter pump for winter storage:
- Drain all water from the pump, filter, and hoses.
- Set the 7-way valve to 'WINTER' to relieve pressure on the internal components.
- Store the pump and filter in a dry, frost-free location.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump not starting | No power, clogged impeller, motor issue. | Check power connection, inspect impeller for debris, contact support if motor fails. |
| Low water flow | Clogged skimmer/pump basket, dirty filter media, air leak in suction line. | Clean baskets, backwash/rinse filter, check all connections for leaks. |
| Cloudy pool water | Insufficient filtration time, dirty filter media, improper chemical balance. | Increase filtration time, backwash/rinse filter, test and adjust pool chemicals. |
| Water leaking from pump/filter | Loose connections, damaged O-rings/gaskets, cracked housing. | Tighten all connections, inspect and replace O-rings/gaskets, contact support for damaged parts. |
