2. Safety Instructions

Please read these safety instructions carefully before installing or using your DALI KUPID speakers. Keep this manual for future reference.

  • Placement: Ensure speakers are placed on a stable surface or securely mounted to a wall to prevent accidental falls.
  • Ventilation: Do not block any ventilation openings. Allow adequate space around the speakers for proper airflow.
  • Heat Sources: Keep speakers away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus that produce heat.
  • Moisture: Do not expose speakers to rain, moisture, dripping, or splashing. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the speakers.
  • Cleaning: Use only a dry cloth for cleaning. Avoid liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Servicing: Do not attempt to service these speakers yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
  • Amplifier Compatibility: Ensure your amplifier's power output matches the recommended range for these passive speakers (40-120 W at 4 ohms) to prevent damage.

Carefully unpack your DALI KUPID speakers and check that all items are present:

4. Setup

4.1 Speaker Placement

Optimal speaker placement is crucial for achieving the best sound quality. Consider the following guidelines:

  • Stereo Imaging: Place the speakers equidistant from your primary listening position, forming an equilateral triangle.
  • Distance from Walls: Experiment with the distance from the rear and side walls. Placing speakers too close to walls can exaggerate bass, while too far can reduce it.
  • Height: Position the tweeters at approximately ear level when seated in your listening position.
  • Toe-in: Slightly angle the speakers inward towards the listening position (toe-in) to improve stereo focus.

4.2 Wall Mounting

The DALI KUPID speakers include wall-mount brackets for flexible placement options. Follow these steps for secure wall mounting:

  1. Identify a suitable wall location, ensuring it can support the weight of the speakers.
  2. Use the provided wall-mount brackets as a template to mark drilling points on the wall.
  3. Drill pilot holes and insert appropriate wall anchors if necessary (not included, depending on wall material).
  4. Securely attach the wall-mount brackets to the wall using the provided screws.
  5. Attach the speakers to the mounted brackets, ensuring they are firmly seated.

4.3 Connecting Your Speakers

The DALI KUPID speakers are passive and require an external amplifier or receiver. They feature single-wire input terminals.

  1. Ensure your amplifier is turned off and unplugged from the power outlet.
  2. Use high-quality speaker cables. Strip approximately 1/2 inch (12 mm) of insulation from the ends of the speaker wires.
  3. Connect the positive (+) terminal (red) on the speaker to the positive (+) terminal on your amplifier.
  4. Connect the negative (-) terminal (black) on the speaker to the negative (-) terminal on your amplifier.
  5. Ensure all connections are secure and that no stray wire strands are touching other terminals, which could cause a short circuit.
  6. Repeat for the second speaker, maintaining correct polarity for both channels.

5. Operation

Once your DALI KUPID speakers are properly connected to an amplifier, operating them is straightforward:

  • Power On: Turn on your amplifier.
  • Source Selection: Select the desired audio source on your amplifier (e.g., CD player, streamer, turntable).
  • Volume Control: Start with the volume at a low level and gradually increase it to your desired listening level. Avoid excessively high volumes that could distort the sound or damage the speakers/amplifier.
  • Break-in Period: Like many high-fidelity speakers, the DALI KUPID may benefit from a break-in period of several hours of normal use to achieve their optimal sound performance.

6. Care and Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your DALI KUPID speakers, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning Cabinets: Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the speaker cabinets. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or polishes that could damage the finish.
  • Cleaning Grilles: The front grilles can be gently removed and cleaned with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to remove dust.
  • Dusting Drivers: Avoid touching the speaker drivers (woofer and tweeter) directly. If dust accumulates, use a soft brush or compressed air from a distance.
  • Sunlight Exposure: Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can cause fading or damage to the cabinet finish over time.
  • Temperature and Humidity: Store and operate speakers in a stable environment, avoiding extreme temperatures or high humidity.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your DALI KUPID speakers, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution

Verify the amplifier's input selection and power status. Test with another audio source or amplifier if possible.
Distorted or unclear soundVolume too high. Amplifier clipping. Damaged speaker cable.Reduce the volume. Ensure your amplifier is not overdriven. Inspect speaker cables for damage. Check if the speakers are properly matched to the amplifier's power output.
Weak or lacking bassIncorrect speaker placement. Phase issue (reversed polarity). Room acoustics.Experiment with speaker placement, moving them closer to a wall if appropriate. Double-check speaker cable polarity. Consider room acoustic treatments.
Buzzing or humming noiseGround loop. Interference from other electronics.Ensure all audio components are plugged into the same power strip or outlet. Move speakers and cables away from power cords or other electronic devices.
