WeatherTech Custom Scratch Protection Kit for Buick Envista (SP0293)

Installation and Care Instructions

Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper installation and care of your WeatherTech Custom Scratch Protection Kit (SP0293) for Buick Envista models. This kit is designed to protect vulnerable painted surfaces such as door handle cups, door edges, and sills from scratches and minor abrasions. The protective film is a clear, high-performance polyurethane that adheres directly to your vehicle's painted surface without causing damage.

Setup and Installation

Careful preparation and application are essential for optimal adhesion and appearance of the protective film. Perform installation in a clean, dust-free environment, ideally between 60-80°F (15-27°C).

1. Gather Necessary Items

Before beginning, ensure you have the following:

  • WeatherTech Scratch Protection Kit (includes film pieces)
  • Clean spray bottle with water and a few drops of mild soap (slip solution)
  • Clean spray bottle with 70% isopropyl alcohol and water (prep/tack solution)
  • Squeegee (soft plastic or rubber)
  • Lint-free microfiber cloths
  • Heat gun or hairdryer (optional, for complex curves)

2. Surface Preparation

  1. Clean the Surface: Thoroughly wash the vehicle areas where the film will be applied using a mild car shampoo and water. Rinse completely and dry with a clean microfiber cloth. Ensure no dirt, wax, or residue remains.
  2. Degrease: Lightly spray the application area with the 70% isopropyl alcohol/water solution (prep/tack solution) and wipe clean with a fresh microfiber cloth. This removes any remaining oils or contaminants.
  3. Inspect: Carefully inspect the surface for any imperfections, dust, or debris. The film will conform to the surface, so any trapped particles will be visible.

3. Film Application

  1. Spray Slip Solution: Liberally spray the cleaned vehicle surface and both sides of the protective film with the soap and water solution (slip solution). This allows for easy positioning.
  2. Position the Film: Carefully peel the film from its backing and place it onto the wet surface. Slide and adjust the film until it is perfectly aligned with the contours of the area it is designed to protect (e.g., door handle cup, door edge, sill).
  3. Squeegee Out Water: Starting from the center of the film and working outwards, use the squeegee to gently push out the water and air bubbles from underneath the film. Apply firm, even pressure. For curved areas, a heat gun on a low setting can help the film conform, but use sparingly to avoid stretching or damaging the film.
  4. Repeat for All Pieces: Follow these steps for each piece of the scratch protection kit.

4. Finishing and Drying

  • After squeegeeing, gently dab the edges of the film with a clean microfiber cloth to absorb any excess solution.
  • Allow the film to cure for at least 24-48 hours without washing the vehicle or exposing it to heavy moisture. Full adhesion can take several days, depending on temperature and humidity.
  • During the curing process, small water bubbles or haziness may appear. These should dissipate as the film dries and adheres completely.

Care and Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and clarity of your WeatherTech Scratch Protection Film, follow these care guidelines:

  • Regular Cleaning: Wash the protected areas with standard car wash soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Avoid Pressure Washing: Do not direct high-pressure water streams directly at the film's edges, as this can cause lifting.
  • Waxing: You can wax the film just as you would your vehicle's paint. Use non-abrasive waxes.
  • Stains: For stubborn stains, use a mild automotive cleaner specifically designed for paint protection films.

Troubleshooting

IssuePossible CauseSolution
Small bubbles or haziness after installationTrapped water or air during curing process. This is normal. Most small bubbles and haziness will dissipate naturally within a few days to a few weeks as the film fully cures and dries. Ensure adequate drying time.
Film lifting at edgesInsufficient squeegeeing, improper surface preparation, or premature exposure to moisture/washing.Re-squeegee the affected edge firmly. If lifting persists, clean the area, re-wet with slip solution, and re-apply, ensuring proper adhesion. Avoid washing the vehicle for at least 48 hours after installation.
Dust or debris trapped under filmInadequate surface cleaning before application.Unfortunately, trapped dust or debris cannot be removed once the film is applied. Prevention through thorough cleaning is key. If severe, the film may need to be carefully removed and replaced.
