3. Setup Guide

Follow these steps carefully to install your SOYO X99 Motherboard Set and other components.

3.1 Unpacking and Preparation

  • Carefully remove all components from their packaging.
  • Ensure you have a clean, static-free workspace. Consider using an anti-static wrist strap.
  • Verify all included components are present: motherboard, CPU, RAM, CPU cooler mounting bracket (if applicable), SATA cables, I/O shield.

3.2 Motherboard Installation

  1. Install the I/O shield into your computer case's I/O panel opening.
  2. Align the motherboard with the standoffs in your computer case.
  3. Secure the motherboard using appropriate screws. Do not overtighten.

3.3 CPU Installation (Xeon E5 2630 V4)

  1. Locate the LGA2011-3 CPU socket on the motherboard.
  2. Open the CPU socket retention mechanism by pushing down and out on the two levers.
  3. Carefully align the CPU with the socket, matching the gold triangle on the CPU to the triangle on the socket. Do not force the CPU into place.
  4. Gently lower the CPU into the socket.
  5. Close the retention mechanism by pushing the levers back into their locked position.
  6. Apply a thin, even layer of thermal paste to the top of the CPU.
  7. Install your compatible CPU cooler according to its manufacturer's instructions.

3.4 RAM Installation (16GB DDR4 2133MHz)

  1. Locate the DDR4 memory slots on the motherboard.
  2. Open the retention clips at both ends of the memory slot.
  3. Align the notch on the DDR4 RAM module with the key in the memory slot.
  4. Press down firmly and evenly on both ends of the RAM module until the retention clips snap into place.

3.5 NVMe M.2 SSD Installation (Optional)

  1. Locate the NVMe M.2 slot on the motherboard.
  2. Remove the M.2 standoff screw.
  3. Insert the NVMe M.2 SSD into the slot at a slight angle.
  4. Gently push down the SSD and secure it with the standoff screw.

3.6 Connecting Peripherals and Power

  • Connect the 24-pin ATX power connector from your power supply to the motherboard.
  • Connect the 8-pin (or 4+4-pin) CPU power connector to the motherboard.
  • Connect SATA data cables to your storage drives and the motherboard's SATA ports.
  • Connect front panel headers (power switch, reset switch, USB, audio) to their respective pins on the motherboard. Refer to the motherboard's silkscreen labels for correct orientation.
  • Install your graphics card into the primary PCIe x16 slot and connect any required PCIe power cables.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 First Boot and BIOS Setup

  1. After connecting all components and power, turn on your system.
  2. Press the DEL or F2 key repeatedly during startup to enter the BIOS/UEFI setup utility.
  3. In the BIOS, verify that the CPU, RAM, and storage devices are detected correctly.
  4. Set the boot order to prioritize your operating system installation media (USB drive or DVD).
  5. Save changes and exit the BIOS.

4.2 Operating System Installation

Insert your operating system installation media and follow the on-screen prompts to install your preferred OS. Ensure all necessary drivers (chipset, network, audio, graphics) are installed after the OS installation for full functionality.

5. Maintenance

  • Dust Removal: Regularly clean dust from the motherboard, CPU cooler, and case fans using compressed air. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
  • BIOS Updates: Check the manufacturer's website periodically for BIOS updates. Update the BIOS only if necessary and follow the provided instructions carefully.
  • Driver Updates: Keep your system drivers updated for optimal performance and stability.
  • Cable Management: Ensure internal cables are neatly managed to improve airflow and prevent obstruction.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Power:
    • Check all power connections (24-pin ATX, 8-pin CPU, GPU).
    • Ensure the power supply switch is in the 'ON' position.
    • Test the power supply with another system or a power supply tester.
  • No Display:
    • Ensure the monitor is connected to the graphics card (not the motherboard I/O if no integrated graphics).
    • Reseat the graphics card and RAM modules.
    • Try booting with only one RAM stick.
  • System Instability/Crashes:
    • Check CPU and GPU temperatures.
    • Run memory diagnostic tools to check RAM integrity.
    • Ensure all drivers are correctly installed and updated.
  • Operating System Not Detecting Storage:
    • Verify SATA/NVMe M.2 connections.
    • Check BIOS settings to ensure storage devices are detected and configured correctly (e.g., SATA mode).
