4. Setup and Installation

This section provides general instructions for installing the SOYO X99 Motherboard Set. For detailed steps, consult your PC case manual and component-specific guides.

4.1. Preparing for Installation

  • Gather necessary tools: Phillips head screwdriver, anti-static wrist strap, thermal paste (if CPU not pre-installed with cooler).
  • Ensure a clean, well-lit, and static-free workspace.
  • Unpack all components carefully.

4.2. CPU Installation (if not pre-installed)

  1. Locate the LGA2011-3 CPU socket on the motherboard.
  2. Open the CPU socket retention mechanism by pushing down and out on the lever(s).
  3. Carefully align the Intel Xeon E5 2630 V4 CPU with the socket, matching the gold triangle on the CPU to the indicator on the socket. Do not force the CPU into place.
  4. Gently lower the CPU into the socket.
  5. Close the socket retention mechanism until it clicks securely.
  6. Apply a small amount of thermal paste to the center of the CPU (if not pre-applied to the cooler) and install the CPU cooler according to its instructions.

4.3. RAM Installation

  1. Locate the DDR4 RAM slots on the motherboard.
  2. Open the retention clips at both ends of the RAM slot.
  3. Align the 16GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM module with the slot, ensuring the notch on the module matches the key in the slot.
  4. Press down firmly and evenly on both ends of the RAM module until the retention clips snap into place.
  5. Repeat for additional RAM modules if applicable, following the motherboard's manual for optimal slot population (e.g., dual-channel configuration).

4.4. Motherboard Installation

  1. Install the I/O shield into the rear opening of your PC case.
  2. Carefully place the motherboard into the PC case, aligning the screw holes on the motherboard with the standoffs in the case.
  3. Secure the motherboard with screws, ensuring not to overtighten.

4.5. Storage and Power Connections

  • NVMe M.2 SSD: If using an NVMe M.2 SSD, install it into the designated M.2 slot and secure it with the provided screw.
  • SATA Devices: Connect SATA data cables from your storage drives (HDDs/SSDs) to the SATA ports on the motherboard. Connect SATA power cables from your power supply to the drives.
  • Power Supply: Connect the 24-pin ATX power connector and the 8-pin (or 4+4-pin) CPU power connector from your power supply to the corresponding ports on the motherboard.
  • Case Cables: Connect front panel headers (power button, reset button, USB ports, audio jacks, LED indicators) to the motherboard according to the motherboard manual.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. First Boot and BIOS/UEFI Setup

  1. After all components are installed and connected, connect your monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
  2. Connect the power cable to the power supply and turn on the power supply switch.
  3. Press the power button on your PC case.
  4. During startup, repeatedly press the DEL or F2 key (common keys, consult motherboard manual for exact key) to enter the BIOS/UEFI setup utility.
