2. Setup

2.1 Initial Winding

Your Orient Automatic Watch is powered by the natural motion of your wrist. However, if the watch has stopped or has not been worn for an extended period, it may require an initial manual wind.

  1. Ensure the crown is in the normal (pushed-in) position.
  2. Rotate the crown clockwise approximately 30-40 times. This will provide enough power reserve to start the watch.
  3. Once the watch starts ticking, wearing it regularly will keep it wound.

2.2 Setting the Time

  1. Pull the crown out to the second click position (farthest out). The second hand will stop.
  2. Rotate the crown to set the hour and minute hands to the desired time. To ensure accuracy, set the time a few minutes ahead and then turn the crown counter-clockwise to move the hands back to the exact time.
  3. Push the crown back into the normal position. The second hand will resume movement.

2.3 Adjusting the Bracelet

The stainless steel bracelet can be adjusted for a comfortable fit. This typically involves removing or adding links. It is recommended to have this adjustment performed by a qualified watchmaker or jeweler to prevent damage to the bracelet or clasp.

3. Operating Your Automatic Watch

3.1 Automatic Movement

Your Orient watch features an automatic mechanical movement. This means it is powered by the motion of your arm and does not require a battery. When worn regularly, the oscillating weight inside the watch winds the mainspring, providing power. If the watch is not worn for approximately 40 hours (depending on the power reserve), it will stop. Simply wind it manually as described in Section 2.1 or wear it to restart.

3.2 Water Resistance (10 ATM / 100 Meters)

This watch is water-resistant to 10 ATM (100 meters), making it suitable for swimming, showering, and snorkeling. It is not suitable for scuba diving. To maintain water resistance:

  • Ensure the crown is always fully pushed in before any contact with water.
  • Do not operate the crown or pushers (if present) while the watch is wet or submerged.
  • Avoid exposing the watch to extreme temperature changes, such as moving from a hot sauna directly into cold water, as this can compromise seals.
  • Have the water resistance seals checked periodically (e.g., every 2-3 years) by a qualified watchmaker.

4. Maintenance and Care

4.1 Cleaning Your Watch

To keep your watch looking its best:

  • Wipe the case and bracelet with a soft, dry cloth regularly to remove dust and fingerprints.
  • For stainless steel parts, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaning materials, as these can damage the finish or seals.

4.2 Storage

When not wearing your watch, store it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and strong magnetic fields. The original watch box is ideal for storage.

4.3 Service Intervals

Like any precision mechanical instrument, your automatic watch benefits from periodic servicing. It is generally recommended to have your watch serviced every 3-5 years by an authorized service center to ensure its accuracy and water resistance are maintained.

5. Troubleshooting
