2. Setup and Initial Use
2.1 Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove the helmet from its packaging. Inspect the helmet for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. Do not use the helmet if any damage is observed. Contact your retailer immediately.
2.2 Proper Fit and Adjustment
A helmet must fit snugly and comfortably to provide maximum protection. To ensure a proper fit:
- Place the helmet on your head, ensuring it sits level and covers your forehead.
- The helmet should feel snug around your cheeks and crown.
- Fasten the Microlock retention system securely under your chin.
- With the strap fastened, try to roll the helmet off your head from front to back. If it moves significantly, the helmet is too large.
- Try to rotate the helmet from side to side. If it moves excessively, the helmet is too large.

2.3 Microlock Retention System
The Microlock retention system provides a quick, precise, and secure fastening mechanism. To fasten, insert the toothed tab into the buckle until a click is heard and the strap is snug. To release, lift the red lever and pull the toothed tab out of the buckle.
2.4 VPS Sun Visor Adjustment
The integrated light blue VPS sun visor is adjustable in 3 positions. Use the lever on the side of the helmet to raise or lower the sun visor to your desired position for optimal glare protection.
2.5 Eyewear Adaptive (EA)
The helmet features an Eyewear Adaptive system designed to facilitate the use of prescription glasses or sunglasses, ensuring comfort for riders who wear eyewear.
2.6 N-Com Communication System Preparation
The Nolan N20-2 helmet is prepared and certified for integration with N-Com Bluetooth+ and N-Com MeshTM communication systems. Refer to the N-Com system's specific manual for installation and operation instructions.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Visor Operation
The main clear visor can be easily raised and lowered manually. The integrated VPS sun visor is operated via a side lever, allowing for quick adjustment to varying light conditions.
3.2 AirBooster Technology Ventilation
The AirBooster Technology system ensures optimal ventilation. Air is drawn from the upper air intakes and channeled through internal ducts, exiting through the large rear extractor. This design provides maximum comfort by directing airflow where it is most needed around the rider's head.
3.3 ESS III Compatibility
The helmet is compatible with the ESS III (Emergency Stop Signal) system, a presence and braking signaling system that enhances the motorcyclist's visibility on the road, particularly during emergency braking.
4. Maintenance and Care
Proper maintenance extends the life of your helmet and ensures its protective capabilities.
4.1 Cleaning the Helmet Shell
Clean the polycarbonate shell with a soft cloth, warm water, and mild soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or petroleum-based products, as these can damage the shell material and protective coatings.
4.2 Cleaning the Visors
Clean both the main clear visor and the VPS sun visor with warm water and a soft cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a helmet-specific visor cleaner. Do not use abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that can scratch or damage the visor's surface or anti-scratch/anti-fog coatings.
4.3 Inner Lining Care
The innovative inner lining features an open mesh structure for ventilation and is made from soft Italian recycled polyamide fabric. The cheek pads have removable and washable internal padding. Remove the cheek pads and inner lining according to the instructions (usually by unsnapping or unhooking them) and hand wash them with mild soap and water. Allow them to air dry completely before reinserting.
4.4 Storage
Store your helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use a helmet bag to protect it from dust and scratches. Do not store the helmet near heat sources or chemicals.

5. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Nolan N20-2 helmet. For problems not listed here, or if solutions do not resolve the issue, please contact Nolan customer support or an authorized dealer.
- Visor not moving smoothly: Check for dirt or debris in the visor mechanism. Clean the mechanism carefully. Ensure all screws (if applicable) are properly tightened.
- Retention system not locking securely: Inspect the Microlock mechanism for any obstructions or damage. Ensure the toothed tab is fully inserted. If damaged, do not use the helmet and seek professional inspection.
- Helmet feels loose after initial use: Re-check the fitment instructions in Section 2.2. The internal padding may compress slightly over time. If the helmet becomes too loose, it may no longer provide adequate protection and should be replaced.
