- Visibility: The helmet is compatible with ESS III (Emergency Stop Signal) for enhanced rider visibility on the road (system sold separately).
- Proper Fit: A helmet must fit snugly and comfortably. An improperly fitted helmet can compromise safety.
- Never Modify: Do not modify the helmet in any way, as this can severely compromise its protective capabilities.

3. Setup
3.1 Initial Inspection
Upon receiving your helmet, carefully inspect it for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. Ensure all components are present and functioning correctly.
3.2 Helmet Fitting
A correct fit is paramount for safety and comfort.
- Size Selection: Refer to the Nolan sizing chart to choose the appropriate size. The helmet should feel snug around your head, cheeks, and jaw, without causing pressure points.
- Wearing the Helmet: Hold the chin straps apart and pull the helmet over your head. It should be a little difficult to put on, indicating a good fit.
- Chin Strap Adjustment: Fasten the Microlock retention system. Pull the strap until it is tight under your chin, but not uncomfortably so. Ensure you cannot pull the helmet off your head when the strap is fastened.
- Head Movement Test: With the chin strap fastened, try to move the helmet from side to side and up and down. Your skin should move with the helmet, and the helmet should not slide independently.
3.3 Visor and VPS Sun Shield
The Ultrawide visor and VPS sun shield are pre-installed. Familiarize yourself with their operation.
- Visor Movement: Practice opening and closing the clear outer visor. It should move smoothly and securely.
- VPS Sun Shield Operation: Locate the control for the VPS sun shield. Practice deploying and retracting it. Note the multiple adjustable positions and the emergency recall function.
3.4 N-Com Communication System (Optional)
Your N20-2 helmet is designed for easy integration of Nolan's N-Com Bluetooth+ and N-Com Mesh TM communication systems. Refer to the specific N-Com system's manual for installation instructions.
4. Operating
4.1 Wearing the Helmet
Always ensure the helmet is correctly positioned on your head, covering your forehead, and the Microlock chin strap is securely fastened before starting your ride.
4.2 Visor Usage
The clear Ultrawide visor protects your eyes from wind, insects, and debris. Open or close it as needed for visibility and comfort. Avoid touching the inner surface to prevent scratches on the anti-scratch coating.
4.3 VPS Sun Shield Usage
The VPS sun shield helps reduce glare from sunlight. Use the control mechanism to deploy it to your preferred position. In situations requiring immediate clear vision, activate the emergency recall function to quickly retract the sun shield.
4.4 AirBooster Ventilation System
Utilize the AirBooster Technology for optimal internal airflow. Adjust the upper air intakes to control the amount of air entering the helmet, which is then channeled to the rear extractor for continuous ventilation.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and effectiveness of your helmet.
5.1 Cleaning the Helmet Shell
- Use a soft cloth dampened with lukewarm water and a mild, neutral soap.
- Gently wipe the exterior of the Lexan™ polycarbonate shell.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the shell's finish and integrity.
5.2 Cleaning the Visor and VPS Sun Shield
- Remove the visor and VPS sun shield if possible (refer to Nolan's specific instructions for removal).
- Wash with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. A very mild soap can be used if necessary.
- Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry. Do not wipe dry, especially the inner anti-fog surface, to avoid scratching.
- Never use abrasive materials or chemical cleaners on the visor or sun shield.
5.3 Cleaning the Interior Padding
- The interior padding is removable and washable. Carefully detach the cheek pads and liner.
- Hand wash the padding in lukewarm water with a mild, neutral soap.
- Rinse thoroughly and gently squeeze out excess water.
- Allow the padding to air dry completely before re-installing it into the helmet. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
5.4 Chin Strap Care
Clean the chin strap with a damp cloth and mild soap. Ensure it is completely dry before use. Inspect the Microlock mechanism regularly for proper function.
5.5 Storage
Store your helmet in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use a helmet bag to protect it from dust and scratches.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter.
- Excessive Noise: Ensure the visor is fully closed and sealed. The helmet's design includes vortex generators to help reduce noise when the visor is open, but a closed visor provides the best acoustic insulation.
- Improper Fit: If the helmet feels too loose or too tight, re-evaluate your size. Ensure the interior padding is correctly seated and not bunched up.
- Visor Fogging: Ensure the helmet's ventilation system (AirBooster Technology) is open and functioning. In cold or humid conditions, some fogging may occur.
- Damaged Components: If any part of the helmet, including the shell, visor, or retention system, appears damaged or compromised, discontinue use immediately and contact an authorized Nolan service center or your retailer.
