1. Introduction

3.1 Device Components

  • Display Screen: 4.3-inch color display for viewing diagnostic data.
  • Navigation Buttons: Up, Down, Left, Right arrows for menu navigation.
  • OK Button: Confirms selections.
  • Exit/Back Button: Returns to the previous screen or exits a function.
  • Function (FN) Button: Accesses special functions or shortcuts.

4. Setup

4.1 Unboxing

4.2 Connecting to Vehicle

  1. Locate the vehicle's 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC). This is typically found under the dashboard on the driver's side.
  2. Ensure the vehicle's ignition is OFF.
  3. Firmly plug the AV-D600's OBDII connector into the vehicle's DLC.
  4. Turn the vehicle's ignition to the ON position (engine can be off or running, depending on the test). The scanner will power on automatically.

4.3 Initial Setup and Language Selection

Upon first use, or after a factory reset, you may need to configure basic settings:

  1. When the device powers on, navigate to the 'Settings' menu using the arrow buttons and press 'OK'.
  2. Select 'Language' from the settings options.
  3. Choose your preferred language from the available 11 languages (e.g., English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, etc.) and press 'OK'.

4.4 WiFi Setup for Updates

To receive lifetime WiFi updates, connect your device to a wireless network:

  1. From the main menu, navigate to 'Settings' and select 'WiFi'.
  2. Turn on WiFi and select your desired network from the list.
  3. Enter the WiFi password if prompted and confirm.
  4. Once connected, the device will indicate a successful connection.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 General OBD2 Functions

The AV-D600 supports all standard OBDII functions for comprehensive engine diagnostics:

  • Read Codes: Displays Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored in the vehicle's computer.
  • Clear Codes: Erases DTCs from the vehicle's computer and turns off the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL).
  • Live Data: Displays real-time data stream from the vehicle's sensors.
  • I/M Readiness: Checks the readiness of the emission monitoring systems.
  • Freeze Frame Data: Shows a snapshot of vehicle operating conditions at the time an emission-related fault occurred.
  • O2 Sensor Monitoring: Retrieves O2 sensor monitor test results.
  • On-Board Monitoring: Retrieves test results for emission-related powertrain components and systems that are not continuously monitored.
  • EVAP Test: Initiates a test of the Evaporative Emission System.
  • DTC Lookup: Provides detailed descriptions of generic (P0, P2, P3, and U0) and manufacturer-specific (P1, P3, and U1) codes.
  • Battery Test: Checks the vehicle's battery voltage and health.
  • Auto VIN: Automatically identifies vehicle information for quick diagnostics.

5.2 4-System Diagnostics

The AV-D600 goes beyond basic OBD2, offering in-depth diagnostics for four critical vehicle systems:

  • Engine System: Reads and clears codes, views live data for engine-related issues.
  • Transmission System: Diagnoses issues related to the vehicle's transmission, including fluid temperature, gear shifts, and clutch engagement.
  • SRS (Airbag) System: Checks for faults in the Supplemental Restraint System, including airbag sensors and modules.
  • ABS (Anti-lock Braking System): Diagnoses problems with the anti-lock brakes, wheel speed sensors, and brake fluid pressure.

To perform a 4-system diagnostic:

  1. From the main menu, select 'Diagnostic'.
  2. The scanner will automatically identify the vehicle via Auto VIN. Confirm the vehicle information.
  3. Select the system you wish to diagnose (Engine, Transmission, SRS, or ABS).
  4. Choose 'Read Codes' or 'Live Data' as needed.

5.3 Reset Functions

The AV-D600 provides three common maintenance reset functions:

  • Oil Reset: Resets the oil service light after an oil change.
  • EPB Reset: Resets the electronic parking brake system after brake pad replacement.
  • Battery Match: Registers a new battery with the vehicle's ECU after replacement.

To use a reset function:

  1. From the main menu, select the desired reset function (e.g., 'Oil Reset').
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the reset procedure.
  3. Note: Ensure the software is updated to access all reset functions.

5.4 Performance Test

The Performance Test function allows you to measure various vehicle performance metrics.

To perform a performance test:

  1. From the main menu, select 'Performance Test'.
  2. Input relevant vehicle data such as weight (if prompted).
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to initiate and complete the test, which may involve specific driving conditions.
  4. The scanner will display results for acceleration, braking performance, driving distance, and other meter data.

5.5 Live Data Display

View real-time sensor data from your vehicle to monitor various parameters.

To access live data:

  1. From the main menu, select 'Live Data' or 'Data List' within a diagnostic function.
  2. You can view data in numerical format or as graphs for easier analysis.
  3. Use the navigation buttons to scroll through different data parameters.

5.6 Cloud Printing

The Cloud Printing feature allows you to print diagnostic reports directly from the device.

To use cloud printing:

  1. After completing a diagnostic scan, look for the 'Cloud Print' option on the results screen or in the main menu.
  2. Ensure your device is connected to WiFi (see Section 4.4).
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to send the report to a connected printer or cloud service.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the scanner's exterior. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the device in its protective storage bag in a dry, cool environment when not in use. Avoid extreme temperatures.
  • Software Updates: Regularly check for and install lifetime WiFi updates to ensure your scanner has the latest vehicle compatibility and diagnostic features. Navigate to the 'Update' menu on the device and follow the prompts.
  • Cable Care: Inspect the OBDII cable for any damage before each use. Do not bend or crimp the cable excessively.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your AVAPOW AV-D600, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Scanner does not power on. Loose connection to DLC; vehicle ignition off; vehicle battery low. Ensure the OBDII cable is securely connected. Turn vehicle ignition to ON. Check vehicle battery voltage.
