Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your SUNTHIN Outdoor Smart Dimmer:

  • The SUNTHIN Outdoor Smart Dimmer is designed for outdoor use with an IP44 rating, providing protection against splashing water. However, avoid direct submersion or exposure to high-pressure water jets.
  • Regularly inspect the dimmer, its power cord, and connected string light cables for any signs of damage, fraying, or corrosion. Replace damaged components immediately.
  • Clean the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or solvents, as these can damage the housing or internal components.
  • For prolonged periods of non-use, especially during severe weather conditions (e.g., heavy storms, freezing temperatures), it is recommended to unplug the device from the power outlet and store it in a dry, protected area.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your SUNTHIN Outdoor Smart Dimmer, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

Lights do not turn on:

  • Power Check: Ensure the dimmer is properly plugged into a working outdoor outlet and that the outlet has power.
  • Connection Check: Verify that the string lights are securely connected to the dimmer's output socket.
  • Light Functionality: Confirm that the string lights themselves are functional and not damaged. Test them with a standard outlet if possible.
  • App Status: Check the mobile app to see if the dimmer is online and currently set to the ON position.

Dimmer not connecting to Wi-Fi:

  • Wi-Fi Band: Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4 GHz. The dimmer does not support 5 GHz networks.
  • Signal Strength: Check your Wi-Fi signal strength at the dimmer's location. Move the dimmer closer to your router if the signal is weak.
  • Router Restart: Restart your Wi-Fi router and modem.
  • Reset and Re-pair: Reset the dimmer to factory settings (usually by pressing and holding the button for several seconds until the indicator light blinks rapidly) and attempt the pairing process again through the app.

Voice control not working:

  • Account Linking: Confirm the dimmer is successfully connected to the mobile app and that your smart assistant (Alexa/Google Home) account is properly linked to the app.
  • Internet Connection: Ensure your internet connection is stable.
  • Device Name: Verify you are using the exact device name you assigned in the app when giving voice commands.

Lights flicker or do not dim properly:

  • Dimmable Lights: Ensure your string lights are explicitly labeled as "dimmable". Non-dimmable lights may flicker, hum, or be damaged when connected to a dimmer.
  • Wattage Limit: Verify the total wattage of your connected lights does not exceed the dimmer's maximum capacity (350W Incandescent, 150W LED).
