1. Introduction

The EPOMAKER Split70 is a 70% layout wireless ergonomic mechanical keyboard designed for comfort and customization. It features a unique split design, a programmable rotary knob, and tri-mode connectivity (Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4GHz wireless, and USB-C wired). This keyboard supports QMK/VIA for extensive key remapping and macro creation, and includes hot-swappable switches for personalized typing experiences. The gasket-mounted structure with five layers of padding ensures a quiet and satisfying acoustic profile, complemented by vibrant RGB backlighting.

3. Setup

3.1 Connecting the Keyboard Halves

The two halves of the Split70 keyboard connect via a short USB-C to USB-C interconnect cable. Plug one end into the USB-C port on the left half and the other end into the corresponding port on the right half. The halves can also be magnetically attached for a unified layout.

3.2 Wired Connection

  1. Ensure the keyboard halves are connected using the interconnect cable.
  2. Toggle the connectivity switch on the left keyboard half to the USB position.
  3. Plug the provided USB-C to USB-A cable into the USB-C port on the left keyboard half and the USB-A end into your computer.
  4. The keyboard backlight will illuminate, indicating a successful wired connection.

3.3 2.4GHz Wireless Connection

  1. Ensure the keyboard halves are connected.
  2. Toggle the connectivity switch on the left keyboard half to the 2.4G position.
  3. Insert the 2.4G wireless receiver (dongle) into an available USB port on your computer.
  4. The 'R' key indicator will flash until a connection is established, then it will stop flashing and return to the current backlight effect.

3.4 Bluetooth Connection

The Split70 supports up to three Bluetooth devices.

  1. Ensure the keyboard halves are connected.
  2. Toggle the connectivity switch on the left keyboard half to the BT position.
  3. Hold down FN + Q/W/E until the light indicator flashes quickly. This prepares the keyboard for pairing with Bluetooth device 1 (Q), 2 (W), or 3 (E).
  4. On your device (PC, Mac, Android Tablet), open Bluetooth settings and search for "Split70-1", "Split70-2", or "Split70-3" and connect.
  5. Once connected, the light indicator will stop flashing and return to the current backlight effect.
  6. To switch between paired Bluetooth devices, short press FN + Q/W/E.

5. Customization (QMK/VIA)

The EPOMAKER Split70 is fully customizable with QMK/VIA software, allowing you to remap keys, set macros, and configure lighting effects with maximum freedom.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Replacing Keycaps and Switches

The Split70 features hot-swappable sockets, allowing you to easily change mechanical switches without soldering. Always ensure the keyboard is disconnected before performing maintenance.

  1. Remove Keycaps: Use the included keycap puller to gently remove keycaps by pulling straight up.
  2. Remove Switches: Use the included switch puller to grip the top and bottom clips of the switch and pull straight up.
  3. Install Switches: Align the new 3-pin or 5-pin mechanical switch with the hot-swap socket on the PCB. Ensure the pins are straight and push the switch straight down until it clicks into place.
  4. Install Keycaps: Press the desired keycaps onto the new switches.

6.2 Battery Check

To check the current battery percentage, hold FN + B. The backlight will illuminate from 1 to 0 keys, indicating the battery percentage (e.g., 6 keys lit means 60%). To check charging status, press and hold FN + Space. A solid red FN indicator means charging, a green indicator means fully charged.

6.3 Wireless Sleep Mode

The backlight will turn off after 5 minutes of inactivity. Simply press any key to reactivate the lighting. The keyboard enters sleep mode after 30 minutes of inactivity, turning off the backlight and disconnecting from the device. Press any key to wake it up and reconnect.
