4. Setup

4.1 NVR Initial Setup

  1. Connect Monitor: Connect the NVR to a monitor using an HDMI or VGA cable.
  2. Connect Mouse: Plug the USB mouse into one of the NVR's USB ports.
  3. Connect Network: Connect the NVR's LAN port to your router using an Ethernet cable.
  4. Connect Cameras: Connect your Reolink IP cameras to the NVR's PoE ports.
  5. Power On: Connect the power adapter to the NVR and plug it into a power outlet. The NVR will power on automatically.
  6. Initial Configuration: Follow the on-screen prompts to set up the NVR, including creating a password and configuring network settings.

4.2 RLA-RM1 Bracket Installation

The RLA-RM1 bracket offers flexible mounting options, including wall mounting and rack mounting.

4.2.1 Attaching NVR to Bracket

  1. Align the NVR with the mounting plate (Component 6 in Figure 5).
  2. Secure the NVR to the mounting plate using the appropriate screws. For RLN8-410, use the holes labeled 'C' (Component 10 in Figure 5).
  3. Attach the Left Side Bracket (Component 1) and Right Side Bracket (Component 2) to the mounting plate and NVR, ensuring proper alignment with the ventilation holes (Component 7).
  4. Tighten all screws to ensure the NVR is securely fastened to the bracket.

4.2.2 Mounting the Bracket

Choose your desired mounting method:

Wall Mounting:
  1. Select a suitable wall location that can support the weight of the NVR and bracket.
  2. Mark the drilling points on the wall using the bracket's mounting holes as a template.
  3. Drill pilot holes and insert wall anchors if necessary.
  4. Secure the bracket to the wall using the provided screws.
Rack Mounting:
  1. Align the rack holes (Component 4 in Figure 5) on the bracket with the mounting rails of your server rack.
  2. Insert cage nuts (Component 3 in Figure 5) into the rack rails if required.
  3. Secure the bracket to the rack using appropriate rack screws.

5. Operation

5.1 NVR Interface Navigation

Use the connected USB mouse to navigate the NVR's graphical user interface (GUI) on the monitor. The interface allows you to view live camera feeds, play back recorded footage, configure settings, and manage connected devices.

5.2 Recording Options

  • 24/7 Continuous Recording: The NVR is pre-configured to record continuously to the built-in 2TB HDD.
  • Motion-Triggered Recording: Configure cameras to record only when motion is detected, saving storage space.
  • Scheduled Recording: Set specific times for recording based on your surveillance needs.

5.3 Remote Access

Access your NVR and cameras remotely using the Reolink App on your mobile device (iOS/Android) or the Reolink Client software on your computer (Windows/Mac).

5.3.1 Reolink App/Client Features

  • Live View: Monitor all connected cameras in real-time.
  • Playback: Review recorded footage from any time.
  • Notifications: Receive instant alerts for person/vehicle/animal detection, siren activation, push notifications, and email alerts.
  • Two-Way Audio: Communicate through cameras that support two-way audio (if applicable).

5.4 Storage Management

The NVR comes with a pre-installed 2TB HDD. You can expand storage capacity by adding an external HDD via the eSATA port (up to an additional 8TB).

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the NVR's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols. Ensure ventilation holes are free from dust and obstructions.
  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and install firmware updates from the Reolink official website or through the NVR's system settings to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • HDD Health Check: Monitor the health of the hard disk drive through the NVR's system settings. Back up important footage regularly.
  • Environmental Conditions: Ensure the NVR operates within its specified temperature and humidity ranges.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 No Video Output on Monitor

  • Check if the HDMI/VGA cable is securely connected to both the NVR and the monitor.
  • Ensure the monitor is powered on and set to the correct input source.
  • Try a different HDMI/VGA cable or monitor.

7.2 Cameras Not Displaying

  • Verify that cameras are properly connected to the NVR's PoE ports.
  • Ensure cameras are powered on (PoE provides power).
  • Check network connectivity between the NVR and cameras.
  • Restart the NVR and cameras.

7.3 Remote Access Issues

  • Ensure the NVR is connected to the internet.
  • Verify that the Reolink App/Client is updated to the latest version.
  • Check your network settings and firewall configurations.
  • Ensure the UID (Unique ID) of the NVR is correctly entered in the app/client.

7.4 Recording Problems

  • Check the HDD status in the NVR settings to ensure it is functioning correctly and has sufficient space.
