The VOCIC U31 wheelchair offers both self-propelled and assisted modes for user convenience.
4.1. Braking System
The wheelchair is equipped with a double-brake design for enhanced safety:
- Handle Brakes: Located on the push handles, these brakes are primarily for the assistant to control speed and stop the wheelchair. Squeeze the levers to engage.
- Handbrakes (Manual Emergency Braking): Positioned near the user's seat, these brakes allow the user to lock the wheels for stability when stationary or for emergency stops. Push the levers down to lock the wheels.

4.2. Armrests and Footrests
- Flip-Back Armrests: The armrests can be flipped back to facilitate easier transfers into and out of the wheelchair.
- Removable Swing-Away Footrests: The footrests can be swung away or completely removed to provide more space for transfers or to reduce the wheelchair's length for storage.

4.3. Self-Propelled and Assisted Modes
- Self-Propelled Mode: Users can propel themselves by gripping the wave-shaped hand rims on the large rear wheels.
- Assisted Mode: An assistant can push the wheelchair using the handles, utilizing the handle brakes for control.
4.4. Safety Features
- Seat Belts: Always use the integrated seat belt for added security during transit.
- Leggings: The leggings provide protection against friction or collision for the user's legs.
- Tilt Assist: A small lever near the rear wheels allows an assistant to tilt the wheelchair slightly to navigate curbs or small obstacles more easily.

5. Folding and Storage
The VOCIC U31 wheelchair features a quick-fold design for convenient transport and storage.
- Fold the Backrest: First, release the backrest lock and fold the backrest downwards.
- Collapse the Seat: Grasp both sides of the seat cushion and pull it upwards forcefully. The wheelchair frame will begin to collapse inwards.
- Secure the Fold: Continue to pull the seat upwards until the wheelchair is fully folded into a compact state. Ensure all parts are securely tucked in.
The compact folded size (approximately 11.8" x 29.9") allows for easy storage in most car trunks or small spaces.

6. Maintenance and Care
Regular maintenance ensures the safety and extends the lifespan of your wheelchair.
- Cleaning: Wipe down the frame and seat with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals. Ensure the wheelchair is dry before storage.
- Brake Inspection: Regularly check the functionality of both handle brakes and handbrakes. Ensure they engage firmly and hold the wheels securely. Adjust if necessary according to the instructions in the full manual.
- Tire Check: Inspect the tires for wear and tear. The puncture-resistant tires are designed for durability, but regular checks are recommended. Ensure the 360° swivel front wheels move freely.
- Frame and Fasteners: Periodically check all bolts, screws, and fasteners to ensure they are tight. Inspect the carbon steel frame for any signs of damage or stress.
- Cushion Care: The breathable rebound cushion can be spot cleaned. Refer to the fabric care label for specific instructions.
