1. Introduction

Welcome to the ENGWE MileTrail 1 Electric Bike user manual. This document provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your new electric bicycle. 2. Safety Guidelines

Your safety is paramount. Always wear a helmet and appropriate safety gear when riding. Familiarize yourself with local traffic laws and regulations. Perform pre-ride checks before each use.

  • Always wear a certified helmet.
  • Ensure all components are securely fastened before riding.
  • Check tire pressure, brakes, and battery charge before each ride.
  • Do not exceed the maximum weight recommendation of 265 pounds (120 kg).
  • Avoid riding in adverse weather conditions, especially heavy rain or snow, despite the IPX4 water resistance.
  • Ride defensively and be aware of your surroundings.

3. Setup and Assembly

The MileTrail 1 electric bike arrives 85% pre-assembled. A tool kit and detailed manual are included for final setup. The main assembly steps involve attaching the front wheel, handlebars, pedals, and seat.

3.1 Battery Installation and Charging

The 468Wh (36V 13Ah) removable battery is integrated into the frame. It can be charged both on and off the bike.

  1. To install the battery, align it with the frame slot and gently push until it clicks into place.
  2. To remove, use the provided key to unlock and slide the battery out.
  3. Connect the charger to the charging port on the battery (or directly to the bike if charging on-bike). The battery indicator lights will show the charging status.

3.2 Handlebar and Seat Adjustment

The adjustable handlebar stem and seat post allow for a personalized and comfortable riding posture, reducing wrist and back strain.

  • Adjust the handlebar angle using the adjustable stem mechanism.
  • Adjust the seat height to ensure your feet can comfortably touch the ground when stopped, and your legs have a slight bend at the knee when pedaling.

The MileTrail 1 offers both pedal-assist and throttle modes for versatile riding.

4.1 Powering On/Off and Display

The bike features a simple display for battery level and pedal-assist settings.

  • Press and hold the power button on the handlebar display to turn the bike on or off.
  • The display shows battery charge level and current pedal-assist level.
  • To turn the headlight on or off, press and hold the '+' button on the display for 3 seconds.

4.2 Pedal Assist System (PAS) and Throttle

The torque sensor provides intelligent power assistance, making pedaling feel natural and efficient. The 7-speed Shimano gear system allows for manual gear changes.

  • Use the '+' and '-' buttons on the display to adjust the pedal-assist level (1-5). Higher levels provide more motor assistance.
  • The thumb throttle provides instant power without pedaling, functioning like a motorcycle throttle.
  • Shift between the 7 mechanical gears using the Shimano shifter on the handlebar to adapt to different terrains and desired speeds.

4.3 Braking System

The MileTrail 1 is equipped with responsive hydraulic disc brakes for reliable stopping power.
