3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

This paint spray system is compatible with Makita 18V B-series lithium-ion batteries (e.g., BL1850B, BL1840B, BL1830B, BL1820B). Batteries are not included.

1. Ensure the battery is fully charged.
2. Align the battery with the battery port on the base of the sprayer handle.
3. Slide the battery into the port until it clicks securely into place.
4. To remove, press the release button on the battery and slide it out.

3.2 Nozzle and Spray Pattern Selection

The system includes 6 copper nozzles (0.5mm, 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm, 1.8mm, 2.5mm) and supports 3 spray patterns.

1. Choose Nozzle: Select the appropriate nozzle size based on the paint viscosity and desired finish. Smaller nozzles are for thinner paints and finer finishes, larger nozzles for thicker paints and faster coverage.
2. Attach Nozzle: Securely screw the chosen nozzle onto the sprayer head. Ensure a sealing gasket is correctly placed.
3. Select Spray Pattern: Rotate the air cap to choose one of the three patterns:
   • Circular (45°): For small areas or detailed work.
   • Horizontal (90°): For spraying horizontal surfaces or making vertical strokes.
   • Vertical (180°): For spraying vertical surfaces or making horizontal strokes.

3.3 Filling the Paint Container

1. Unscrew the 1400ml spray bottle from the sprayer body.
2. Prepare your paint according to the manufacturer's instructions, ensuring it is properly thinned for spraying. Use the provided funnel to pour the paint into the container. The maximum viscosity should not exceed 100 din/s.
3. Screw the spray bottle back onto the sprayer body securely.

3.4 Adjusting the Suction Tube

The suction tube can be rotated 360° to optimize paint pickup depending on the spraying direction.

• For spraying objects below: Rotate the suction tube forward (towards the front of the sprayer).
• For spraying objects above: Rotate the suction tube backward (towards the rear of the sprayer).

4. Operation

4.1 Preparing the Surface

Ensure the surface to be painted is clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, or loose particles. Mask off any areas not intended for painting.

4.2 Adjusting Paint Flow and Spray Area

• Paint Flow Adjustment: Use the dedicated knob to control the volume of paint released. Start with a lower setting and increase as needed.
• Spray Area Adjustment: The other knob allows precise adjustment of the spray angle, complementing the air cap rotation for pattern selection.

4.3 Spraying Technique

1. Hold the sprayer approximately 15-30 cm (6-12 inches) from the surface.
2. Maintain a consistent distance and speed for even coverage.
3. Apply paint in smooth, overlapping strokes. Release the trigger at the end of each stroke to avoid excessive buildup.
4. Always test on a scrap piece of material first to adjust settings and technique.

4.4 Using the LED Light

The integrated LED light can be used to illuminate your work area, especially in dimly lit environments.

• The LED light is rechargeable via the provided data cable.
• It features two modes: flash and strobe. Activate and cycle through modes using the button on the light unit.
• The light is removable for separate use or charging.

5. Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your paint spray system.

5.1 Cleaning Instructions

Clean the sprayer immediately after each use to prevent paint from drying and clogging the components.

1. Empty Container: Remove any remaining paint from the spray bottle.
2. Rinse: Fill the container with an appropriate cleaning solution (water for water-based paints, mineral spirits for oil-based paints). Spray the solution through the gun until it runs clear.
3. Disassemble: Unscrew the spray bottle, remove the nozzle, air cap, and any other removable parts.
4. Clean Components: Use the provided cleaning brush and digging needle to thoroughly clean all disassembled parts, including the nozzle, air cap, and suction tube. Pay close attention to small openings to remove all paint residue.
5. Wipe Down: Wipe the exterior of the sprayer with a damp cloth.
6. Dry and Reassemble: Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling the sprayer.

5.2 Storage

Store the clean and dry paint spray system in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep it out of reach of children.
