Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective operation of your Radtel RT-950 Ham Radio. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the device to ensure proper functionality and to understand all features.

Safety Information

We declare that the radio is in compliance with Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU. The device is designed for operation in environments with temperatures between 0-40°C and altitudes under 2000m. Operating outside these conditions may damage your radio.

For this device, Head SAR and Body SAR were performed with the device configured in positions according to EN IEC/IEEE 62209-1528:2021. Face-up SAR was performed with the device 25mm from the phantom, and Body SAR was performed with the device 0mm from the phantom. Body SAR was also performed with the headset and belt clip attached and without.

The maximum results of SAR (50% duty cycle) are as follows:

  • Face up (25mm): 0.277W/Kg
  • Body back (0mm): 4.061W/Kg
  • Hand (0mm): 4.270W/Kg

Setup

Battery Installation

Align the battery with the back of the radio and slide it into place until it clicks securely. Ensure it is firmly seated to prevent accidental disconnection.

Antenna Attachment

Screw the dual-band antenna clockwise onto the antenna connector at the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten, as this may damage the connector.

Charging the Battery

The RT-950 supports USB Type-C fast charging and includes a desktop charger for convenience.

  1. Connect the Type-C charging cable to the radio's Type-C port or place the radio in the desktop charger.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to the provided power supply with a USB port.
  3. Plug the power supply into a standard electrical outlet.
  4. The charging indicator on the radio or desktop charger will illuminate, typically red during charging and green when fully charged.

Operating Instructions

Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment

To power on the radio, rotate the top-left knob clockwise until you hear a click. Continue rotating clockwise to increase the volume. To power off, rotate it counter-clockwise until it clicks.

Keypad and Display

The radio features a vivid full-color display for clear information viewing and a numeric keypad for frequency input and menu navigation.

3 PTT Buttons

The RT-950 is equipped with three programmable Push-To-Talk (PTT) buttons, allowing for three frequency display and tri-standby operation. Refer to the diagram above for button locations: PTT A, PTT B, and Side Key 1.

Multi-Band Reception

The RT-950 supports wide frequency coverage, including AM/FM, CB, SW, MW, and LW bands. Use the menu system to select the desired band and frequency for reception.

NOAA Weather Alerts

Stay informed about weather conditions by activating the NOAA weather channel feature. This ensures preparedness during outdoor activities or severe weather events.

GPS/APRS Functionality

Integrated GPS and APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) enable real-time position sharing. This feature is useful for team coordination during outdoor activities or emergency deployments.

Output Power Adjustment

Maintenance

Cleaning

Troubleshooting

No Power

  • Ensure the battery is correctly installed and fully charged.
  • Check that the power/volume knob is rotated clockwise to the 'on' position.

Cannot Transmit or Receive

  • Verify the antenna is securely attached.
  • Check the selected frequency and channel settings to ensure they are correct.
  • Ensure the battery has sufficient charge for transmission.

Poor Audio Quality

  • Adjust the volume knob.
  • Check for obstructions around the microphone and speaker.
  • Ensure you are within effective communication range of the other radio or repeater.
