1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective use of your Berrcom ET003 Forehead and Ear Thermometer and Berrcom JXB-178 Forehead Thermometer. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the devices and retain it for future reference. These thermometers are designed for accurate temperature measurement for individuals of all ages.

3.1. Product Features

3.2. Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery cover located at the bottom of the thermometer.
  2. Insert two AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Close the battery cover securely.

3.3. Operating Instructions (ET003)

3.3.1. Forehead Measurement

  1. Ensure the probe cover is attached for forehead mode.
  2. Press the 'START' button to turn on the thermometer.
  3. Position the thermometer probe at the center of the forehead, approximately 1-2 inches away.
  4. Press the 'START' button again. The reading will appear on the display within 1 second.

3.3.2. Ear Measurement

  1. Remove the probe cover to expose the ear probe.
  2. Press the 'START' button to turn on the thermometer.
  3. Gently insert the probe into the ear canal. For children under 1 year, gently pull the ear straight back. For children over 1 year and adults, gently pull the ear up and back.
  4. Press the 'START' button again. The reading will appear on the display within 1 second.

3.3.3. Temperature Unit Switching (℃/℉)

With the device turned off, press and hold the 'MOD' button for approximately 3 seconds. The display will show the current unit, then switch to the other unit. Release the button to select the desired unit.

3.3.4. Fever Alarm

The ET003 thermometer features a fever alarm. If the measured temperature exceeds the normal range, the device will emit a short beep, and the screen backlight will turn red, indicating a potential fever.

4.2. Battery Installation

  3. Close the battery compartment cover firmly.

4.3.1. Body Temperature Measurement

  1. Press the 'MODE' button to ensure the thermometer is in 'Body' mode.
  2. Point the thermometer at the center of the forehead, approximately 0.3-1.5 inches (1-3 cm) away.
  3. Press the measurement button (trigger). The temperature reading will display instantly.

4.3.2. Object/Room Temperature Measurement

  1. Press the 'MODE' button to switch to 'Object' or 'Room' mode.
  2. Point the thermometer at the object or area you wish to measure.
  3. Press the measurement button (trigger). The temperature reading will display.

4.3.3. Temperature Unit Switching (℃/℉)

With the thermometer turned on, press and hold the 'MODE' button for a few seconds until the unit changes on the display. Release the button to set the desired unit.

4.3.4. Memory Function

The JXB-178 automatically stores the last 32 temperature readings. To access memory, press the 'MEM' button. Repeated presses will cycle through stored readings.

4.3.5. Fever Alarm and Backlight

The JXB-178 uses a three-color backlight system to indicate temperature status:
