4. Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials and ensure no parts are missing or damaged.
  2. Placement: Place the machine on a stable, level, and heat-resistant surface, away from water sources and direct heat. Ensure adequate ventilation around the appliance.
  3. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the water tank, portafilter, and drip tray with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  4. Fill Water Tank: Remove the water tank from the machine, fill it with fresh, cold water up to the MAX indication, and place it back securely.
  5. Add Coffee Beans: Open the lid of the bean hopper and fill it with whole roasted coffee beans. Close the lid securely.
  6. First Use / Priming: Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet. Follow the instructions in the operating section to run a cycle with only water to prime the system and rinse internal components.

5. Operating Instructions

The Philips Baristina is designed for simple, automatic espresso preparation.

  1. Power On: Ensure the machine is plugged in and the water tank is filled. Press the power button to turn on the appliance. The machine will perform a brief self-check.
  2. Place Cup: Position your espresso cup on the drip tray directly under the coffee spout.
  3. Select Brew: The Baristina offers various espresso options. To initiate brewing, simply swipe the portafilter handle to the desired position (e.g., Espresso, Lungo, Extra Intense). The machine will automatically grind the beans, tamp them, and extract your coffee.
  4. Enjoy: Once the brewing cycle is complete, your espresso is ready. The machine will return to standby mode.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your espresso machine. Note: The appliance is not dishwasher safe.

  • Daily Cleaning:
    • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray and grid daily.
    • Portafilter: After each use, remove the portafilter and discard the used coffee grounds. Rinse the portafilter under running water.
  • Water Tank: Clean the water tank weekly with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Bean Hopper: Periodically, empty any remaining beans and wipe the inside of the bean hopper with a dry cloth. Ensure no coffee oils build up.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
