4.2 Bluetooth Pairing

  1. Ensure the EC-2 is powered on.
  2. Download and install the "Pulze Control" mobile app from your device's app store (iOS/Android).
  3. Open the Pulze Control app on your mobile device.
  4. Follow the in-app instructions to search for and connect to the EC-2 Pulze Control via Bluetooth. The 'PAIR' indicator on the EC-2's display will confirm connection status.

4.3 Wired Connections

  • USB-C MIDI: Connect the EC-2 to a computer (PC/Mac) using a USB-C cable. This connection provides both power and wired MIDI communication.
  • TRS MIDI Output: Use a 1/4" TRS to MIDI cable (not included) to connect the CTRL/MIDI jack to legacy MIDI hardware.
  • Expression Pedal/External Footswitch: Connect a standard expression pedal or momentary footswitch to the CTRL/MIDI jack for additional real-time control.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Footswitch Operation

The EC-2 features two footswitches, A and B. Each footswitch can be programmed to send various MIDI messages based on different actions:

  • Single Tap: A quick press and release.
  • Double Tap: Two quick presses in succession.
  • Long Press: Press and hold for a specified duration.

Programming of these actions is done via the Pulze Control mobile app.

5.2 Using the Pulze Control Mobile App

The mobile app is central to customizing the EC-2's functionality.

  • Simple Mode: Provides plug-and-play compatibility with Hotone devices like Pulze amplifiers and Ampero II Stage processors. This mode simplifies setup for common functions.
  • Pro Mode: Offers advanced customization. In Pro Mode, you can assign complex MIDI strings, including Program Change (PC), Control Change (CC), and Note On/Off commands, to each footswitch action (tap, double-tap, long-press).

Refer to the in-app help or Hotone's official website for detailed guides on specific MIDI programming within the app.

5.3 Expression Pedal / External Footswitch Control

When an expression pedal or momentary footswitch is connected to the CTRL/MIDI jack, its function can be assigned via the Pulze Control app. This allows for real-time control over parameters such as wah, volume, or other assignable MIDI parameters.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes.
  • Storage: Store the EC-2 in a dry environment away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
  • Battery Care: For optimal battery life, avoid fully discharging the unit frequently. If storing for extended periods, charge the battery to approximately 50% every few months.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Device Not Powering On: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect the EC-2 to a USB power source and attempt to power on.
  • Bluetooth Connection Issues: Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device. Restart both the EC-2 and your mobile device. Ensure no other devices are actively connected to the EC-2 via Bluetooth. Try resetting the EC-2 using the RESET button on the rear panel (use a thin object like a paperclip).
  • MIDI Messages Not Being Sent/Received: Verify that the EC-2 is correctly paired (Bluetooth) or connected (USB/TRS MIDI). Check the MIDI settings within the Pulze Control app to ensure messages are correctly assigned and the target device is configured to receive them.
  • Footswitches Not Responding: Confirm the unit is powered on. If issues persist after checking app settings, perform a factory reset if available (refer to app or Hotone support for instructions).
