  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from a PoE+ enabled switch or injector to the 5 GbE PoE+ port on the R670. This will provide both power and network connectivity.
  2. Alternatively, if not using PoE+, connect a standard Ethernet cable from your network to the 5 GbE port and connect a compatible power adapter (sold separately) to the DC power input.
  3. The 1 GbE port can be used for additional wired network devices or for network segmentation.
  4. The USB 2.0 Type A port supports peripheral connectivity for IoT devices or other compatible accessories.

3. Initial Configuration

The Ruckus R670 is designed for seamless setup, especially when integrated with Cloud Care. Refer to the Ruckus documentation or Cloud Care portal for detailed configuration steps, including network settings, SSID creation, security protocols, and management access.

Wi-Fi 7 Tri-Band Connectivity

The R670 operates across three frequency bands: 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and the new 6 GHz band, leveraging Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) standards. This tri-band capability allows for optimized traffic distribution, reducing congestion and providing dedicated high-speed channels for compatible devices.

Advanced Wireless Technologies

  • MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output): Features dual 2x2 MIMO and quad 4x4 MIMO spatial streams to maximize bandwidth efficiency and network capacity, especially in high-density environments.
  • OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access): Improves efficiency by allowing multiple users to share a channel simultaneously, reducing latency and improving throughput.
  • BeamFlex+ Adaptive Antenna Technology: Enhances signal reliability and extends range by dynamically adjusting antenna patterns to focus Wi-Fi signals towards client devices, mitigating interference.
  • 1024-QAM: A higher-order modulation scheme that packs more data into each signal, contributing to higher data rates.

Security and Management

The R670 supports enterprise-grade security features, including WPA3, role-based access control, and application visibility. These features ensure secure traffic management and protect your network from unauthorized access. The device is designed to support thousands of concurrent clients with seamless roaming capabilities.

Maintenance

The Ruckus R670 is designed for reliable, fanless operation, minimizing the need for routine maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the exterior of the access point with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and apply firmware updates as recommended by Ruckus or ACE to ensure optimal performance, security, and access to new features. These updates are typically managed through your network controller or Cloud Care platform.
  • Environmental Conditions: Ensure the access point is operated within its specified temperature and humidity ranges to prevent damage and ensure longevity.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Ruckus R670 Access Point, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power/LED Indicators Off: Verify that the Ethernet cable is securely connected to the PoE+ port and that the PoE+ switch or injector is powered on and functioning correctly. If using a separate power adapter, ensure it is properly connected and providing power.
  • No Network Connectivity: Check the Ethernet cable connection to your network. Ensure the upstream network devices (switch, router) are operational. Verify network configuration settings on the R670 via your management interface.
  • Poor Wi-Fi Performance: Ensure the access point is optimally placed, away from major obstructions or sources of interference. Check for firmware updates. Review channel utilization and adjust settings if necessary through your network management system.
  • Cannot Access Management Interface: Confirm the R670 has an IP address and that your management device is on the same network or has proper routing. Try restarting the access point.

For persistent issues, consult the Ruckus support documentation or contact ACE technical support.
