5. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the winch's performance and safety. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Mounting the Winch: The standard body size and installation dimensions (13''x4''x4.5'' body, 4 7/8" fairlead pattern, 3"/3.10" mounting plate 2-hole) allow the winch to fit most ATV/UTV mounting brackets. Secure the winch to a sturdy, flat surface on your vehicle using the provided mounting plate and bolts. Ensure the mounting location can support the winch's weight and pulling forces.
  2. Installing the Fairlead: Attach the aluminum fairlead to the mounting plate using the appropriate hardware. The fairlead guides the synthetic rope and protects it from abrasion.
  3. Electrical Wiring: Connect the winch to your vehicle's 12V DC battery. Refer to the wiring diagram below for correct connections. Ensure all connections are tight and protected from environmental elements. The ignition wire should be connected to the positive terminal of the battery.

6. Operating Instructions

Your TYT winch comes with both a wired and a wireless remote control for efficient operation.

6.1. Engaging and Disengaging the Clutch

  • To engage the clutch (for powered winching), rotate the clutch knob to the 'Engaged' position.
  • To disengage the clutch (for free spooling the rope manually), rotate the clutch knob to the 'Free Spool' position. This allows you to pull out the rope by hand.

6.2. Using the Remote Controls

The winch includes a 50-foot wireless remote control and a 10-foot wired controller. The winch's receiver responds quickly to commands.

  • Wired Controller: Connect the wired controller to the control box. Use the 'IN' button to retract the rope and the 'OUT' button to extend the rope.
  • Wireless Remote Control: For initial setup, pair the wireless remote by holding down the 'IN' and 'OUT' buttons simultaneously near the winch for 10 seconds. The wireless remote will automatically enter protection mode when not used for a long time. To re-match, simply press the 'IN' and 'OUT' keys simultaneously and hold for 10 seconds.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable performance of your winch:

  • Rope Inspection: Regularly inspect the synthetic rope for frays, cuts, or other damage. Replace the rope if any damage is found.
  • Keep Rope Clean: Clean the synthetic rope after use, especially if it has been exposed to mud, sand, or debris. This prevents abrasive particles from damaging the rope or winch drum.
  • Electrical Connections: Periodically check all electrical connections for corrosion or looseness. Clean and tighten as necessary.
  • Winch Housing: Keep the winch housing clean and free of debris.
  • Lubrication: Consult a qualified technician for internal lubrication if required, as improper lubrication can damage internal components.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your winch, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Winch Not Operating:
    • Check battery connections for tightness and corrosion.
    • Ensure the vehicle's battery has sufficient charge.
    • Verify the remote control is paired correctly (refer to Section 6.2).
    • Check for any tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses in the wiring.
  • Winch Operating Slowly or Weakly:
    • The load may exceed the winch's capacity or the current drum layer's capacity.
    • Battery charge may be low.
    • Check for excessive friction in the fairlead or rope path.
  • Rope Not Spooling Evenly:
    • Guide the rope manually during retraction to ensure even winding, especially under light loads.

If problems persist after attempting these steps, contact customer support for assistance.
