1. Important Safety Information

Always observe basic safety precautions when using electric tools to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Read all instructions carefully before operating this tool.

  • Work Area Safety: Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
  • Electrical Safety: Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
  • Personal Safety: Always wear eye protection. Use safety glasses, goggles, or a face shield. Wear hearing protection when operating power tools for extended periods. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts.
  • Tool Use and Care: Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. It will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
  • Battery Pack Use and Care: Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack. Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs.

4. Setup

4.1 Charging the Battery

The 2000mAh lithium-ion battery requires charging before first use and whenever the battery level indicator shows low charge. A full charge typically takes 3-5 hours.

  1. Connect the 12V battery charger to a standard power outlet.
  2. Insert the battery pack into the charger. Ensure it clicks securely into place.
  3. The charger indicator light will show red during charging and turn green when fully charged.
  4. Once fully charged, remove the battery from the charger.

Important: Only use AVID POWER 12V batteries and chargers with this drill. Using batteries or chargers from other brands or with different capacities may cause damage or safety hazards.

4.2 Installing and Changing Bits

The 3/8-inch keyless chuck allows for quick and easy installation of drill bits and driver bits.

  1. Ensure the drill is switched off and the forward/reverse switch is in the center (locked) position to prevent accidental starting.
  2. Grip the rear half of the chuck firmly with one hand.
  3. Rotate the front half of the chuck counter-clockwise to open the chuck jaws.
  4. Insert the desired drill bit or driver bit into the chuck, ensuring it is centered and inserted as far as possible.
  5. Rotate the front half of the chuck clockwise to tighten the jaws securely around the bit. Hand-tighten firmly.
  6. To remove a bit, reverse the process.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Speed Control

The drill features a 2-speed gearbox, allowing you to select the appropriate speed range for your task.

  • Low Speed (0-400 RPM): Ideal for driving screws, drilling larger holes, or working with softer materials where more torque and less speed are required.
  • High Speed (0-1400 RPM): Suitable for drilling smaller holes, working with harder materials, or when faster drilling is needed.

To change the speed, use the speed selector switch located on top of the drill. Ensure the drill is stopped before changing speeds to prevent gear damage.

5.2 Torque Settings

The drill features 25+1 torque settings, allowing you to adjust the clutch to prevent over-driving screws or damaging materials. The '+1' setting is for drilling mode, which provides maximum torque.

  1. Rotate the torque adjustment collar, located behind the chuck, to select the desired torque setting.
  2. Lower numbers indicate lower torque, suitable for smaller screws or softer materials. Higher numbers provide more torque for larger screws or harder materials.
  3. For drilling, select the drill symbol setting (usually the highest number or a drill icon) to bypass the clutch and deliver full power.

5.3 Forward/Reverse Operation

The forward/reverse switch controls the rotation direction of the chuck.

  • Push the switch to the left for forward rotation (for drilling and driving screws).
  • Push the switch to the right for reverse rotation (for removing screws or backing out drill bits).
  • When the switch is in the center position, the trigger is locked, preventing accidental operation.

5.4 Using the Flexible Shaft

The included flexible shaft allows you to reach and work in tight or awkward spaces where the drill itself cannot fit.

  1. Install the flexible shaft into the drill's keyless chuck as you would a regular bit.
  2. Insert the desired driver bit or small drill bit into the end of the flexible shaft.
  3. Carefully maneuver the flexible shaft to the desired work area.
  4. Operate the drill at a lower speed to maintain control when using the flexible shaft.

6.1 Cleaning

  • Always disconnect the battery pack before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the exterior of the drill. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Keep the ventilation openings clear of dust and debris to prevent overheating. Use compressed air if necessary.
  • Clean the chuck jaws regularly to ensure proper gripping of bits.

6.2 Battery Care and Storage

  • Store the battery pack in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • For long-term storage, charge the battery to approximately 50% capacity. Avoid storing fully charged or completely discharged batteries for extended periods.
  • If storing for more than 30 days, recharge the battery every 3-6 months to maintain its health.
  • Do not store the battery pack connected to the drill.
