VCELINK GJ468 RJ45 Network Cable Tester User Manual

Model: GJ468

Introduction

The VCELINK GJ468 Network Cable Tester is designed to efficiently test network and telephone cables. This device helps identify common wiring issues such as continuity, short circuits, open circuits, and incorrect wiring in RJ45 (CAT7, CAT6A, CAT6, CAT5E, CAT5) and RJ11 cables. Its user-friendly design and clear LED indicators make it an essential tool for network installation and maintenance.

Safety Information

  • Do not expose the device to moisture or extreme temperatures.
  • Use only the specified 9V battery.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the device.

Setup

1. Battery Installation

The VCELINK GJ468 requires one 9V block battery for operation (not included). To install the battery:

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the main unit.
  2. Insert a new 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

2. Connecting Cables

The tester consists of a main unit and a detachable remote unit. To test a cable:

  1. Connect one end of the network or telephone cable to the appropriate port (RJ45 or RJ11) on the main unit.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to the corresponding port on the detachable remote unit.
  3. For testing installed cables or long runs, the remote unit can be detached.

Operating Instructions

1. Powering On and Selecting Test Mode

Locate the power switch on the main unit. It has three positions: OFF, ON, and S.

  • OFF: Powers off the device.
  • ON: Activates the fast test mode. LEDs will light up quickly in sequence.
  • S: Activates the slow test mode. LEDs will light up at a slower pace, allowing for easier observation of individual wire status.

2. Interpreting LED Indicators

Once powered on, the LEDs numbered 1 through 8 and 'G' (Ground/Shielding) on both the main and remote units will illuminate in sequence, indicating the status of each wire in the connected cable.

  • Sequential Illumination (1-8, G): Indicates correct wiring and continuity for each corresponding wire.
  • No Illumination: Suggests an open circuit (broken wire) for that specific pin.
  • Incorrect Sequence or Multiple LEDs On: Indicates a short circuit, crossed wires, or other wiring faults.
  • 'G' Light: Illuminates to indicate proper shielding or ground connection.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V battery when the LEDs appear dim or the device does not power on. Always dispose of used batteries responsibly.
  • Storage: Store the tester in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

Refer to the following table for common issues and their indications on the LED display:

IssueLED IndicationDescription
ContinuityAll LEDs 1-8 and G light up sequentially. All wires are correctly connected and functional.
Open CircuitA specific LED (e.g., Pin 3) does not light up.The corresponding wire is broken or not connected.
Short CircuitTwo or more LEDs light up simultaneously or out of sequence (e.g., Pins 2 and 3).Two or more wires are touching each other.
Bad Connections / Crossed WiresLEDs light up in an incorrect sequence (e.g., Pins 3 and 6 are swapped).Wires are connected to the wrong pins at one or both ends.
