3.3. Balancing the Gimbal with a Camera

Proper balancing is crucial for optimal performance and battery life. Follow these steps to balance your camera:

  1. Unlock the tilt axis motor lock. Point the camera lens straight up. Release your hands and observe the direction it tilts.
  2. If the lens drops forward, the lens front is too heavy. Unlock the tilt axis arm lock and shift the camera in the opposite direction of the tilt. Keep adjusting until the lens stays pointing straight up when released. Lock the quick release plate in place.
  3. Now, both the up-down and front-back directions on the tilt axis are well balanced. Lock the tilt axis motor lock.
  4. Unlock the roll axis motor lock. Check which direction the camera tilts. If the camera drops to the left, the left side is too heavy. Unlock the roll axis arm lock and move the arm in the opposite direction. Adjust repeatedly until the camera stays balanced when released.
  5. Finally, unlock the pan axis motor lock. Rotate the pan axis to one side and tilt the stabilizer forward. Check how the camera rotates. Unlock the pan axis arm lock. Then move the arm in the opposite direction of the rotation. Adjust repeatedly until the camera stays balanced when released. Lock the pan axis motor lock.

3.4. Balancing the Gimbal with a Smartphone

Balancing a smartphone is similar to balancing a camera. Ensure the smartphone is securely mounted before proceeding.

  1. Unlock the roll axis motor lock. Check the direction in which the phone is tilting.
  2. If the phone tilts and drops to the right, it means the right side of the roll axis is too heavy. Unlock the roll axis arm lock. Move the roll axis arm in the opposite direction of the tilt. Adjust repeatedly until the phone stays balanced when you let go.
  3. Once balanced, the roll axis is properly adjusted. Lock both the roll axis and the motor lock.
  4. Next, unlock the pan axis motor lock. Rotate the pan axis to one side and tilt the stabilizer forward. Watch your phone's rotation direction.
  5. Then unlock the pan axis arm lock. Move the arm in the opposite direction of the phone's rotation. Adjust repeatedly until the phone remains steady when released. Then lock the pan axis motor lock and arm lock.
  6. The tilt axis does not require specific adjustment when mounting the phone.
  7. Now, you can unlock the motor locks of the tilt, roll, and pan axes. Power on the stabilizer; it's ready to use.

4. Operating Modes

The FeiyuTech SCORP Mini 3 Pro offers several operating modes to suit various shooting scenarios:

  • Lock Mode: In this mode, the pan, tilt, and roll axes are all locked. The camera lens always faces forward, regardless of how you move the gimbal. This is ideal for maintaining a fixed perspective.
  • Pan Follow Mode: Only the pan axis follows your hand movement, while the tilt and roll axes remain locked. This mode is suitable for smooth horizontal tracking shots.
  • Pan & Tilt Follow Mode: Both the pan and tilt axes follow your hand movement, while the roll axis stays locked. This allows for dynamic shots that follow both horizontal and vertical motion.
  • FPV Mode: All the pan, tilt, and roll axes follow the direction of your hand movement. This mode provides an immersive first-person view, ideal for capturing dynamic and fluid shots that mimic natural human movement.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your FeiyuTech SCORP Mini 3 Pro gimbal, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the gimbal body. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. For the lens and screen, use specialized cleaning cloths and solutions.
  • Storage: Store the gimbal in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the provided dust cover to protect it from dust and debris.
  • Battery Care: Fully charge the battery before long-term storage. Recharge it every three months to prevent deep discharge.
  • Axis Locks: Always engage the axis locks when transporting or storing the gimbal to prevent damage to the motors.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your FeiyuTech SCORP Mini 3 Pro, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:

  • Gimbal not powering on: Ensure the battery is fully charged. Check the power button for proper engagement.
  • Unstable footage: Verify that the gimbal is correctly balanced for your camera or smartphone. Recalibrate the gimbal if necessary.
  • Motors vibrating or making noise: This often indicates improper balancing or an overloaded payload. Re-balance your setup or reduce the weight.
  • AI tracking not working: Ensure the AI tracking module is clean and unobstructed. Check the app settings for proper activation.
  • Connection issues: For remote control or app connection, ensure Bluetooth is enabled on both devices and they are within range.
