2. Important Safety Information
- This smoke detector is designed to detect smoke particles from slow, smoldering fires. It may not provide timely warning for fast-developing fires caused by highly combustible materials.
- Regularly test your smoke detector weekly using the Test/Silence button.
- Never paint the smoke detector. Paint can clog the sensing chambers and prevent the alarm from functioning properly.
- Do not install in areas with high humidity, extreme temperatures, or excessive dust, as this may cause false alarms or malfunction.
- Ensure all household members know the alarm sound and how to respond in case of a fire. Develop and practice a fire escape plan.
- The 10-year battery is sealed and not replaceable. The unit must be replaced after 10 years of operation.

5. Setup and Installation
The HEIMAN S1-S smoke detector offers flexible installation options. Choose the method best suited for your location.
5.1 Recommended Placement
Install at least one smoke alarm on every level of your home, including finished attics and basements. Place alarms in all sleeping areas and hallways leading to them. For optimal protection, consider installing an alarm in every bedroom.

Avoid placing alarms near windows, doors, or vents where drafts could interfere with smoke detection. Keep away from cooking appliances to prevent nuisance alarms.
5.2 Activating the Battery
The 10-year lithium battery is pre-installed. To activate the device, gently pull out the yellow insulation pin located on the side of the alarm. The device will emit a short beep and the LED indicator will flash, confirming activation.

5.3 Mounting Options
You can install the smoke detector using either screws or magnetic adhesive pads.
Method 1: Screw Mounting
- Separate the mounting bracket from the main alarm unit by twisting counter-clockwise.
- Position the mounting bracket on the desired wall or ceiling location. Mark the two screw holes.
- Drill two holes at the marked positions. Insert the anchor plugs if installing into drywall.
- Secure the mounting bracket with the provided screws.
- Align the smoke detector with the mounted bracket and twist clockwise until it clicks securely into place.
Method 2: Magnetic Adhesive Pad Mounting
This method is ideal for quick, drill-free installation on smooth, clean surfaces.
- Ensure the mounting surface is clean, dry, and smooth.
- Peel the protective film from one side of a magnetic adhesive pad. Attach it firmly to the back of the smoke detector unit.
- Peel the protective film from the other side of the magnetic adhesive pad. Press the smoke detector firmly onto the desired wall or ceiling location for at least 10 seconds.

6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Testing the Alarm
After installation and weekly thereafter, press and hold the Test/Silence button on the front of the alarm for a few seconds. The alarm will sound a loud, pulsating tone, and the LED indicator will flash rapidly. Release the button to stop the alarm. This confirms the unit is functioning correctly.

6.2 Silencing Nuisance Alarms
If the alarm sounds due to non-emergency smoke (e.g., cooking fumes), press the Test/Silence button. This will temporarily silence the alarm for approximately 10 minutes. The LED indicator will flash every 10 seconds to remind you that the alarm is in silence mode. The alarm will automatically reset after 10 minutes unless smoke is still present.
6.3 Low Battery Warning
When the battery is nearing the end of its 10-year life, the alarm will chirp approximately once every 40 seconds, and the LED indicator will flash. This indicates that the entire smoke detector unit needs to be replaced. Do not attempt to replace the battery.
7. Maintenance
- Weekly Testing: Test the alarm weekly as described in Section 6.1.
- Monthly Cleaning: Gently vacuum the exterior of the smoke detector using a soft brush attachment to remove dust and debris. Do not use water or cleaning solvents.
- Replacement: Replace the entire smoke detector unit 10 years after the installation date, or immediately if the low battery warning sounds. A "Replace 10 years after installing" label is on the side of the unit.
8. Troubleshooting
